i really believe this rule will add more to Phumelela Gold pot because the idea is to increase the number of carryovers. Remember from the pools 25% is tax or 20% so when a pool lets say R700k is carry over to the relevant meeting that R700K is taxed again thus achieving more revenue
to the company. So doing the maths meeting A pool R840k less 20% tax is R700k which is carryover to next meeting B of which is then taxed again as part of the pool so in all only R540k went into that pool thereby generating extra revenue. Remember every pool is taxed.
just my way of looking at it....but for a small punter the bigger payout will attract me.

carryover pool is not taxed again only the "new" part of the pool

I see no difference here between the likes of Malema and ANC getting at the trough because they are connected (have the knowledge, expertise, professionals, the money, contacts, inside info, etc)....to get a bigger slice of the P6 payout to the prejudice of those who are not in such situations, but still yearn to strike it big / win this great pie in the sky Lotto payout because it appeals!
We reveal ourselves as no worse, and greedier, than those whom we accuse of theft, corruption, etc. in other places.
Sanctify it the new rules as much as we want, it's still promoting greed at the expense / exclusion of others!
And boost selfish egos!

umlilo...u have already resigned yourself to the fact that u r gonna lose....try telling that to the guy who picked up..a miilion .,was it?....for his R1.60 OUTLAY ON THE soccer 13...the point is...like naresh said earlier...is structure..plenty R20.00 P6'S....WILL STILL catch...if they take a chance and bankers come in...same with the big players.....they gonna put 5-6 horses (hence the perm is gonna get bigger)...the favourite arrives....the R20.00 ticket is in cheap...on the contrary....in some instances..the greed in some cases...could very well play into the hands of the smaller outlay...at the end of the day...no matter what system is applied...u need luck and the results to go your way...

@racing Guru:
I hear you.
However, the big difference is (as pointed out by others); against the Lotto where random numbers and luck apply, here, the numbers are linked to human elements and factors which can be manipulated.
That is potentially and inherently....unfair, if not crooked!

It is the end of our tendency to leave out the favourite when we find a scratching that is coupled.

@RG:
'am pretty sure u r a straight up on the nose punter as well...or r u not..'
This is not personal but since you imply that it's not for straight nose people like myself, then I should state that your gambling on horses is a privilege. I do not see why you should be privileged above anyone else in some other hobby, sports, etc.
For instance, why should I be paying such a hefty price (tax) for a puff or a tot and you get away with a pittance (relative , of course!)
On the other hand, why should I permit you to gamble everyday whereas I cannot smoke anywhere? Your privileges are far greater than mine!
Silly argument, but applicable.
Therefore, can I ask the powers that be to ban horseracing on Sundays, double the betting tax and dictate how bets may be structured?
After all, smokers and boozers are in the clear majority!
That's the problem; a privilege is taken for granted as a right!
