why do they not just tell the truth and say they are doing away with the coupling rule because they want to co mingle with overseas pools

Those with the means are ensuring that the majority of our semi and illiterate people (most of whom clamour for higher wages and less productivity!), remain perpetually 'bonded clients' of our national past-times......

booze, drugs and gambling!

Together with this, perpetual indebtedness to 'micro-sharks'!

I was hooked onto horseracing from a very early age; I will always love the horse but the punting aspect another issue!

This is more so because, as a non-participant (we blacks were not allowed to be owners, trainers, officials, etc those days), I watered this notion that there was this 'mystery', aura about horseracing which only the trainers and jockeys knew. When results did not go my way, the immediate thought was 'crooked'! Logic and rationale were discarded!

I also looked around and noticed the hundreds of other punters like me, all sacrificing their last bit, on a 'certainty', often from a 'source'. The one who had even an 'indirect' link (or knew) a jockey or trainer was a worshipped god....a marvel that such could be in contact with a greater god!

The skellem parts aside (allegedly by trainers and jockeys), such as race rigging, not trying, etc., today I see 'legalised' crookery being given the green light by those who are supposed to ensure the integrity of the game. Herein, I refer (not just the blind eye to many an indiscretion, doping or otherwise), but changes to rules of punting whereby results can and will be manipulated, to the prejudice of the 'unconnected' punter across the board.

I have heard of many 'coups' first-hand (some of them bragged openly about this to me when I was on the Gambling Board); now, the slush gates are open!

At the end of the day, one has to consider whether one wants enjoyment (the thrill of participating), or satisfaction of knowing without batting an eye, that putting down that last cent was worth it or not!

Therefore, (after much consideration with my limited expertise and knowledge), I have decided to quit this game and embark on a mission to have it totally reviewed by not only the Government, but bring to the attention of the various parties that will be involved in the next elections....and some of whom are going to change the political and economic scenario without being within the claws of blood-sucking entities.

My own party (South Africa First, for whom I am the ad hoc spokesperson on socio-economic matters), has endorsed my approach.....horseracing be investigated and re-arranged; revert to it being a Section 21 Company with an independent Horseracing Board in charge of control and regulation. Horseracing is not only perceived to be crooked from the bottom, but also from the top now!

I ponder how anyone can justify such a deviation and exploitation of other punters who are not at the trough also? How will they ever be privy to 'inside' info on first-timers, etc?

There are those who will disagree with me and be cynical; the message I have for them.....it will pass and changes will come, like it or not!

As Tennyson noted (Ulysses), the old order changeth, yielding place to new.'

The Lotto now beckons!

BTW:
The only gambling activity I have been in to date is horseracing....no go all the others, even for free!

I shall continue to post and participate on aspects relevant and keep my contacts as I have made quite a few friends...leading amongst them Flash Harry and OR. To the former, my prayers always!

Amandla!

I had a tough decision to make yesterday
I needed 2 bankers for the pick6
I had no doubt about Orange Blossom
The other one was Target Five, after much deliberation...:S

Why not LEAVE the COUPLINGS...

Rather take away the FRACTIONAL bet

I am sure it has caused a lot of punters to win less 'cause we can have more combinations

Just my humble opinion

This is a diabolical change to the rules
It will be interesting to see what percentage the pool decreases by as I really don't believe that it will increase pools and as stated they only spoke to the high rollers when they continually tell us there core market are the R20 punter in the totes, just off the subject thats the reason they don't support formgrids because these people which are there core market don't have access to the internet or smart phones.

I don't post much any more, but I do visit every few days. There are a few people trying to take credit for an idea. The original idea is common knowledge since the time when couplings was first used and the "credit" now should go to whoever drove it through the bureaucracy.

Perhaps we shouldn't immediately confuse the issues of making a bet more difficult with the fact that some people try to cheat. People who want to cheat always wanted to cheat and honest people don't need to cheat. You don't stop blackjack because there are card counters, you make it more difficult to count cards.

The couplings was removed from the jackpot and everyone seems happy. There are probably five good reasons to lose the coupling rule, and only one to keep it.

Recently I stubbornly had a bet on a coupled horse who had a terrible draw, and which drifted because "they" switched the stable jock to the coupling with the better draw. It was a small bet because it's hard to be confident in that situation. At the moment we think the jockey just got it wrong. Once couplings are detached, we will believe they pulled a fast one.
