This is a debate that won't be easily settled and I do believe that having a system of weighing horses on course on the day of racing is better than no system at all.
Logistically in SA it may be difficult to have it done pre-raceday but there is nothing that should stop this happening on the day itself. Having this information before placing your exotics would not be that accessible so this is something that needs to be taken into account. It is obviously easier here with all horses being stabled on course but this system could be used as the foundation for a system catering for SA racing.
Don all our horses are branded and easily identifiable. At track work for example, every horse has to wear the saddlecloth with his/her registered number so at any given time one is able to check who the individual is. A nice touch recently added is that all graded stakes winners in Singapore have a purple saddlecloth with their name so they definitely stand out!
Happy racing to everyone this weekend and don't forget to watch the Emirates Singapore Derby on Sunday (11h55 S A time) which should be a humdinger. The other highlight of the weekend is the Paititi Gold Trophy also run on Sunday (09h50 SA time) where the outstanding colt Super Easy looks to make it 11 from 11 but he isn't going to have it all his own way this time.

exotic bets is not the be all and end all of betting but what the hell do i know i am a muppet punter who has been around for 5 minutes in racing as opposed to the experts on here who know more about punting and punters needs than the punters themselves ...let the turnovers on local racing continue to decrease by 50 percent as per the phumelelas latest results i dont really care a damn anymore .....punters on this site try and give ideas on how to increase turnover and ultimately improve the industry for all but we are wasting our breath ...

As far as I am concerned any weights not taken the day before at the latest are or could easily be misleading. I hear that the turnover for July day this year exceeded the previous years turnover by the 9th race and if 1 of the favourites had won the July or they had run places, the turnover increase would have even been much bigger which is great.

The target market of Phumelela are R20 punters who churn money - They play race by race so this would help them
also i'm sure trends will be identified - horse starts at 480 , then 470 etc so you can tell he's getting fitter(obviously if he's racing often enough and not growng)

Pirates, I and my cohorts as you call them do not know all the answers but if I think anyone is wrong I will tell them. I think it is a waste of time taking it a few days before as I have seen a swings of 20kgs in 2 days depending on work done or not. It must be done the day before, after work at the earliest. Secondly I was just showing that the turnover has increased and that is great unless you were looking for it to drop to suit your arguements that everything is wrong.

So does our yard.... Would you trust every stable to be honest when they submit their runners weights? Or would you recommend that there is a designated official present to verify the weights? And would you agree that all "off centre" or private scales are inspected on a regular basis, to ensure uniform calibration and accuracy?

ruby you obviously deal with very devious people but trust me not every trainer is a liar or a thief...ffs grow up the majority of trainers can see the bigger picture and what certain things can do for the betterment of the industry unlike you who has blinkers and pacifiers on and very tunnelvisioned....would i trust every stable to be honest?if they arent honest with their weights imagine how crook their horses are when they run...you really are pathetic

Ruby fails to understand that by making an effort and creating a transparent platform for punters to assess races will create more turnover, which in theory should increase stakes, increased stakes attracts more new owners to the game which is good for trainers

Ruby your dogged determination to see how this will fail is bordering on lunacy or just plain stupidity

Cnt you see the bigger picture?
