And 100% irrelevant. One horse is currently racing and winning, the other isn't. Plus, as good as Jet Master is, Igugu is a Galileo from an Aga Khan family, which would add to her price. None of that proves that she is the better horse of the two in terms of pure talent. I can only repeat - we have no actual way of knowing, and will still have no way of knowing no matter how much time we spend debating the subject.

mr magic...surely based on the current facts and information we have in front of us...not the potential...the facts...eb cannot be placed in the same league as igugu...

Calm down, guys!

Barry Irwin posed a question. Karel posed a question. Result : The Igugu fan club comes out swinging as if they had discovered the aforementioned gentlemen were sleeping with their 5 year old sister..........

Try chewing on the following for a few moments :

1.) How often have we all thought or expressed the following? :

On a line through...................this makes..................performance pretty good.

That's all Mr Irwin appeared to be speculating on.

2.) Ebony Flyer beat Igugu in the Fillies Guineas which SUGGESTS that she MIGHT be the better of the two up to 1600m. Although that is in the form book things change. Ask our current crop of male three year olds if you are seeking proof..............!

3.) The speed with which the term 'world class' is bandied about in South African sport is startling. Just the other day no less a horse than the July runner up was being touted as the next big thing. And now? In his place as a top class horse possibly capable of winning a really big one. Nothing more and nothing less.

4.) There may ultimately be no scope for comparison as Ebony Flyer MAY end up being a miler with Igugu a mile and a quarter horse. This argument would then be as irrelevant as trying to compare JJ The Jet Plane with a Met winner.

5.) Entirely missing from this debate is the REALITY that our fields are becoming diluted with each passing year as the top horses are cherry picked and moved to foreign pastures. So , in most cases, the older generations are now almost only represented by second or third tier animals in terms of the best we have been able to breed.

5.) The best comment of all was : ".................and this from a journo". That has to be the most naive comment I have read since Zuma's philandering was described as 'cultural behaviour'.

Although not in this case journos hold the monopoly on poorly researched, vague and unsubstantiated hearsay masquerading as fact. But then you would know that if your reading encompassed publications other than Computaform.

As stated elsewhere : It's probably opportune to just celebrate Igugu's accomplishment right now. More importantly - Scotia backed her!

By this time next week I am pretty sure that some dodgy winner at the Vaal will be drawing all the comment as the next big thing.

It is unbelievable that there are two acrimonious threads,on 2 different forums, responding to the original post.
If any person,on either forum, owned a filly that had beaten Igugu ,at level weights, the only time they met, they would be excited about Igugu's win,but justifiably optimistic about the ability and future of their own horse.
I note no claim in the original post of "still being better" merely a question........and one that has no conclusive answer.
For this debate to cause as much slinging off as it has,is a wonderful advert for the credibility of forums....not.

I agree that the word "Champion" is used too freely but come on Igugu has won 8 out of 10 finishing second in the other two, won the Triple Tiara the Woolavington and then the July with 55kg's on her back which is unheard of for a 3 year old filly. She has done everything asked of her and you can't fault her if her opposition hasn't been as strong as in previous years. She is a Champion which ever way you look at it.
