This is not about impressing or winning or whatever.
She hailed a CHAMPION and HORSE of the YEAR.
Let's keep perspective please.

she must have been the easiest july winner i have seen in many years ,the winning margin flatters the runner up and i agree with mdk he hasnt got to the bottom of her... i just wish our bookies were like they are in the uk and price up long before the race

If I recall correctly, post-race Mike wasn't quite ready to put her in the same breath as his other July winning filly Ipi T.

Oh really.
Horse Chestnut is a Champion, so is Empress Club, Pocket Power.
It's an exclusive club. Very.

Igugu, whatever she may have achieved, cannot lay claim to belong in that league.

Overuse of the word Champion is easy, but it devalues the real thing.

Ipi Tombe's July win proved to be more of a blanket finish with 3.50l covering the 1st 12 past the post.

MDK: "I STILL HAVE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF HER. There is still something to work with".

If I may use MIURRAY WALKER'S quote - "It's one thing to catch up to Nigel Mansell. Entirely different to pass him"

When it seemed as though the pack were getting closer to her, IGUGU simply maintained and kept at least a length between them, AD not doing much except SALUTE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously Igugu is a champion and horse of the year. But, lets not forget Ebony flyer is a champion too - no matter which way you cut it. She won the Fillies Guineas and ran a spectacular race in the Queens Plate so early in her career.
Igugu has accomplished much more and is fresh in our minds. She holds the mantle of the best horse in the country. That is not debatable.
But to speak negatively about a horse like Ebony Flyer is insulting. She is the only horse in the country that MAY be in Igugu's class.

Bottom line - Igugu is a champion filly, to win the July and what 7 in a row or so is quiet a achievement by any standard. She had more critics before the race then supporters but her class prevailed and she proved alot of people wrong. So lets give credit where its due, Mike had her in tip top shape and Delpech (Not my favorite jock for personal reasons) gave her a peach of a ride. Well done to them.

As for Ebony Flyer only time will tell, if Barry can give us a update that would be really appreciated instead of starting a thread complimenting Igugu and Ebony Flyer at the same time, why take the glory away from Igugu and her team. Igugu is not the same horse since Ebony Flyer beat her and she has really really improved.

Only a match race before Igugu heads overseas for bigger and brighter will determine how good EBONY FLYER really is.
