a forum that has only trainers posting their opinion of their horses for the day would be in the best interest of the punter . being a forum , you can lump the horses for a particular race and then form you opinion . the forum should obviously be a closed one for trainers only . imo trainers have a duty to the punters of the industry that they have a crucial say in . transparency is the way to go .

Imo, trainers have no duty to the punters other than to be truthful when asked - and 'no comment' is also an answer - a trainer's loyalty should be to the horses he trains and the owners who entrust those horses to him/her.
I'm not saying that trainers should not post on forums, but they certainly can't be forced to do so.
Just my opinion

You got a point there Frodo, but jeez, it will be great if we can have more on here. Most of them have web-sites where they share their thoughts, eg. Bass & G v Zyl, normally updated on race day, but the others 'is 'n bietjie stadig'. Websites not updated.
Anyway, thanks to the Sham's, Sir Craig, Louis The Gooze and Sean Miller

I have a different opinion. The trainer is employed by the owner and as such cannot give info without approval from the owner. Only once the horse is on the track it become public property and the public can have a punt. The owner is the guy who puts his/her hand up at the sales and pays all costs involved - and let us not forget who the ''other'' punter is here. The big punters in my opinion are the owners, trainers and stable related employees (I include jocs and their agents, family).
I would like to see the difference in terms of turnover between the man in the street and the individuals close to the action such as owners and trainers.

I do not much subscribe to the opinion that a horse only becomes 'public property' once it is on the track - imo the trainer's first obligation is to the horses he trains and the owners that pay their keep - if he/she has some spare time, I don't see anything wrong with trainers posting on forums - but is should not be compulsory to do so

There can be little doubt that the owner has a right to take the "top end" price of a horse that they have not only purchased but also maintained for the time leading up to the race, however once they have got their price then Im sure that no owner would mind if the entire world got on, surely we as 'the man in the street" should acknowledge that 2/1 or even 8/10 is a great price to take about a winner that has cost us zip....the fact that the owner has lumped on and has caused the horse to shorten should give us confidence to get on rather than take exception to the fact that they kept it quite until they were on??? no owner no horse no horse no game....
Give everything but up!

the best info you can ever get is that a horse can't win - you can often get this info from watching the horse go down or seeing it in the ring
