Inside racing-Don`t miss it Monday!!!
15 years 5 months ago
Phumelela chief executive (SA) David Attenborough and Patrick Loker, Commercial Director of Gold Circle, will appear on Inside Racing on Tellytrack this Monday 18 January at 20:00 (well, they'll be on just after 20:00). They will address all aspects of the controversy around significant late changes in TAB payouts caused by large international wagers taken just before pools close.

According to their tech director at Betfair: “Each year we process more transactions than all the previous years added together.”
Betfair has built an in-house transaction processing and event platform, which it says has the capability of processing up to one million transactions per second, a 100-fold increase on previous rates.
We don't process a million transactions over a weekend, so I look forward to the explanations.
(this might not be on point, but it's very interesting nonetheless)

The timing is perfect - I battle to sleep normally so a good fairytale should get me snoring! I really don't care about any excuse forthcoming - I no longer support comingling and have given it a chance but can see that it is bringing LOCAL RACING into DISREPUTE.
The small punter does not have the luxury of playing with bookmakers as I have and will leave the game as fast as possible. Most totes don't have bookmakers en suite and I'm sure bookies are not rushing to take R6 place/win bets. Also the late night explanation is a slap in the face to the boys that keep the totes open as they will be at home when the show is aired and will have to rely on the print media to get the info as the show cannot be rebroadcast during racing. If comingling is continued in this vein totes will be empty before the end of the year as no sane individual can bet into a system that decreases the chances of earning a small profit to zero.

Greg to be fair the station was not accessible to most punters to begin with and I have cellphone bills to prove that I had to call the telephone for results etc.
Getting back to "Goldilocks and the Lucky Laundry" - I wonder if it is proven that the image of local racing is being brought into disrepute by co-mingling(due to late transfer of bets or malicious manipulation) will the guilty parties be WARNED OFF? What's the difference between doping a horse and causing it to win at 50-1 or neglecting to check software performance that causes 4-1's to pay R2-80 or R12-80. If this was the USA I'm sure a Class action suite would already have been brought against Phumelela for their actions and If found guilty.....? Crazy decisions like this places everyone that derives an income from racing at serious risk as turnover from local punters can be decimated and IF the fickle foreign punter loses interest then how will you EVER get the local punter to trust you again when you realize you need their measly R6 to pay your salary?
"When The Tree Forgets Its Roots It Falls"
not sure where I heard this(or if I just made it up) but it would be the Mantra I'd use if I were in charge of Phumelela!!!
(To be fair - those that know me will attest to the fact that I hardly ever take Bookmaker bets and though it is inconvienient I now have to consider this to add value to my wager - something I don't want to do as I grew up punting using the tote - Bookmaker bets never appealed to me because I had a perception that they were 'in the know' and were 'leg-breakers'. This is obviously not the case so as I would move my bank account if the service was as bad so shall I move my wagering accounts)

Will they be taking any phone calls.
I hope they do, so that we could question any dubious answers they might have prepared especially for the show.

The interesting thing for me is they have to refute the idiotic media release(lucky numbers lol) or start from that premise.....should be fun to watch that bit for starters!

I have no idea how they can "justify" the lucky number press release by using it as a starting point for making their points. If they do they are complete and utter numpties!!!!
They should start a fresh and explain to all of us how comingling works and how it affects the pay outs. If we are unhappy with their explanaition it is our right and duty to question them.
There is absolutely NO formbook in the world that could justify the payouts of recent weeks, and if they don't know this then how can we have people like them run the betting aspect of racing?
Roll on Monday and I know what they are going to say....and I know it will cement my opinions of them and their companies!!
