They will says that if they close earlier they will lose most of the 30% - so they rather take the abuse and risk losing some of the local 70%

Find it hard to beleive that the overseas stuff is making up 30% of the pools, especially with the shitty returns..
An increase of traffic of 30% should make the pools better not worse..

Isn't this a bit of a diversion from the actual point? It's not the late fluctuation of the odds that is the real/only problem, is it?
It's the large amount of placed horses paying 1.00, and the horses paying out far less than their bookmaker equivalent prices, both for wins and places. Combine that with the late price changes and no wonder there's an uproar.

Bruss had most of the correct questions but poor answers.
Bottom line: show the print out at the close of SA racing, do another printout after the race and focus on the individual bets that cause such a descrepancy trace it to the specific terminal and take action

Hi All
As promised here are my views of the show. I have not got internet this early hour of the morning for some reason so have not seen any comments on the forums, therefore there is a chance that I may repeat some of what others are saying / posting.
The first thing that struck me was the change in scheduling. In my view Clyde needs to be applauded for possibly having a hand in the change of scheduling to promote night racing and the new sponsorship by Piggs Peak. They knew that this was absolute prime time viewing due to the topic which was being raised and moved these interviews and inserts forward in order to pedal their wares. Very clever. If we used a rating system for TV in SA we would have found ratings peaking during this time and falling off directly after the interviews on the comingling issue. I did not watch another second after the interview ended. They also used a space in between to pedal the booking of venues and an add to advertise in the computer form. I have no problem with any of this other than the fact that the agenda is clear. “We promote our interests and your issues can wait until we are done with this.” This is by far one of the biggest challenges that this lot is faced with and if I were them I would steer clear of rubbing salt into wounds.
The operators blamed the delay in collating on the availability of bandwidth to a large extent which is fair comment and advised that some time in the future this would not be an issue. They also stated bandwidth is a serious problem in SA. I have news for Mr P. This issue has already been addressed. The Seacom cable has already landed in SA and we should be seeing vast improvements in speed, price and efficiency. Seacom has a website should anyone want to have a look at this and what I can gather from this is that they already are selling wholesale bandwidth. Seacom is a cbal linking Africa to the middeleast and Europe. I am not convinced that these guys are serious on the comingling as they addressed the issue by saying that they are serious about the problems caused in comingling and that is why they investigated new technology a while back. In my view this seemed to be something that occurred to them in studio rather than the real reason behind investigating new technologies.
I was gob smacked when Robin Bruss asked what checks and balances in places and Mr GC answered “the computer checks on itself”. Enough said. To be fair Mr P did follow up with a long list of checks and balances. In my view, the checks and balances are on the host tote and probably very little is being done in the way of checks and balances on the “parasite” side. Auditing in my view is limited from what they have stated.
Another issue that stands out and should for all is, why if this is being going on for so long, have they not released a statement earlier. Why does it take us the forumites to point this out to them? Are they running this business or or are we or is this a case of purposeful non disclosure in order to attempt to hide issues? In the in the financial services industry the ombud would smash us for non disclosure.
When I heard strategic decision the show was over in my view. When senior management strategises on any issue or programmes, it takes time to undo any strategic balls up as it has to go through the mill of meeting after meeting. On this, Mr P advised that income was derived from: product fees and comingling fees which eventually makes its way back to stakes. This is an interesting comment and one that owners should keep an eye on in terms of the increase in stakes vs the increase in comingling. They should be proportionately related. One thing that Mr P omitted to mention was outgoing product and commingling fees. Does one cancel the other?
Another really silly remark was that the punter overseas does not have the depth of info that we have. The overseas market is way more developed than we are in Africa and the internet has the world of info available. Formgrids the ultimate in info.
Mr P advised that the various states in Aus use different tote systems. For me herein lies the problem which he admitted is a problem. Therefore, why have something that is only half working. If they are not up to it get rid of it – surely there should be minimal standards or is profit taking the only standard? I was also not convinced by the answer given when Robin asked whether they should not close betting a minute earlier. The basic answer of the overseas punter would not accept early closure of betting would have sufficed but to continue to state that they have approached the overseas markets with this idea, again felt as though it was something that was made up on the spot, in the studio. Mr P looked to Mr GC for affirmation at one point which tells me that this may not be entirely true.
Neither Mr P or GC could advise on how long co mingling has been going on for. How can you not know what is going on your business?
In closing I believe that Robin Bruss did a great job and pushed the right buttons and at times made them look unsure of themselves. I have a new level of respect for Mr Bruss as he showed that he is not partial to bullshit and has real value to add to the industry. I believe the correct thing for Mr P and Mr GC would have been to apologise for insulting the intelligence of the punter by releasing the statement they did and commit to engaging with punters on this issue to further the game. There was not such apology or commitment but rather the attitude stunk of “its here to stay, take it or leave it!”
I am so glad I have committed to weaning myself off of this game!
Kind regards
Insulted Mugg

Spot on Dave, I think we all accept the explanation that 'massive updates' come through after the race has actually started, but nobody has explained why almost all of the late bets coming through are all on ONE SINGLE HORSE, resulting in a place dividend changing from R3 to R1; the 'database log' as refered to by Andrewest should show where these anomalies orginate and if it is indeed coming from a 'specific terminal'.
They also mentioned that their 'customers' are against closing early; as a compromise I suggest they close the race for overseas updates as soon as the runners start to load.
Lastly there is the issue of cancellations; I think they said that only tote operators / call centre agents are allowed to cancel bets for up to 20 seconds after the off; but I'm not sure if the question was answered clearly: Can PUNTERS cancel bets (on the internet or via a tote operator / call centre agent) for up to 20 seconds after the off?

I think there is a lurker in the system.
Someone picked up on this with the small pools from hole in the wall venues and has now got it right to screw with the % by either late bets or late cancellations.
I would suggest some sort of of time out on the tab online web site and also multiple account being accessed from the same IP address etc.
But hey i can only count to 21.
