DD scratched, the other three all good winners made for a super weekend.

One runner at Turffontein on Thursday.
Almond Sea in race 4. Tries to go beyond a sprint for the first time. Obviously with the intention of seeing whether to have a go at the Big Cap for which she is 3rd on the log. She has been taught to tuck in and settle, and she has a great turn of foot. If she stays the trip then she is the one to beat from a good draw. Only Just be Lekker and Jimmy Don are better off at the weiights. The former is inconsistent, and the latter returns from a long rest and is better further. The main danger could be Winds of Change carrying no weight.
I think there is a good chance that she could be effective over the 1450m on this track and the 1400m at Greyville.
Speed and class she has in abundance.

Almond Sea a fair second and was running on.However, she ran about 10lb below her best sprint form. The early pace was slow, and the winner of this race rated 103 carrying just 52.5kg was only marginally faster than the MR77 winner of the following race over the same trip which carried 58kg. So this race nearly 2 seconds slower than it should have been. Given the slow pace, one would have thought that Almond Sea should have outsprinted them over the last 400m. A very clever ride by Venniker, and not the greatest of rides by Lerena who dropped his whip and inexplicably switched out in the closing stages. However, the Turffontein inside track can be tricky first time on it, and she was pulling a bit early, although did settle down after about 500m. She showed enough imo to have a go at the Big Cap- the Greyville 1400m is easier than this 1450, but the draw will be crucial, and she will have to lump 59.5kg. However, that includes 2kg fillies allowance, and Okavango and Great Plains will have to carry 63kg, so she will be favourably weighted. It remains to be seen if she can reproduce her straight course sprint rating over the 1400m on the turn, especially if it is run at a hot pace.

One runner at Fairview on Friday. Lyrics and Songs in race 4. She has not shown much and I still don’t understand how she could have earned a rating of 62 on what she has done to date. Last time went forward from the wide draw and showed fair pace but fell away the last 400m. Drops down in trip to 1400m, and gets a decent draw, but a much weaker jockey this time. Hopefully the blinkers and the lead pony will help her to improve.

Lyrics and Songs again disappointing.
Warrior of Destiny ran on Sunday at Kenilworth. Unfortunately was loaded early and fell asleep in the stalls. Lost 5 lengths at the start but ran on well. When he learns to jump he will be a nice horse.

Two runners at Greyville on Friday night. Unfortunately both in race 6. De Vlugge has solid KZN form and can follow up her last good winning run. Golden Angel decent first attempt on the poly, and will be competitive with the 1.5kg claimer up. Competitive field and very few can be ignored, but with luck we can have both in the money.

Golden Angel caught 4 wide the whole way.
De Vlugge- great ride by de Melo to get across from the wide draw and another good win.

Two runners at Kenilworth on Saturday.
Elusive Profit in race 1. Unfortunately stood in the stalls and lost many lengths. Ran on well enough.
Double Distilled in race 10. Has an ew chance in an open race

Double Distilled below previous- needs further.

One runner at Scottsville on Sunday.
Dawn Surprise in race 8. Stable is in hot form. Got a hefty penalty for last easy win with the 4kg claim, and despite that should again fight out the finish.
Sugarbush, Saragossa  Cat and Queen Braganza look the main dangers.

fair run by Dawn Surprise but the penalty was too much for her.

After a very busy and successful February (8 winners from 20 runners that we bred), this month is quiet.

One runner at Turffontein on Saturday. Warning Sound in race 5. Very competitive event and upset quite likely.
She bounced back to form with a nice win last time, but is a bit under sufferance here, and will need to improve a couple of lengths to feature.
Gerbera is my pick.

The RaceCoast yearling sale is at kenilworth 13th and 14th March. We have a lovely draft of 12 yearlings, and they will arrive at the sales ground on Monday 9th March.
We are in block I and wellcome all viewers.

Good run by Warning Sound

Three runners at Turffontein on Saturday. Rain could be a problem
Charleston Dawn in race 3. Not a strong field, so she has a place chance with a bit of improvement. Wings of Kildra best of the raced runners but would be no surprise if a first timer won.
Almond Sea in race 9. Tough task at the weights and not the best of draws. Presumably this is to keep her ticking over prior to the Big Cap, so unlikely to be pushed too hard. Can win, but the inconsistent just be Lekker is a threat, and Callmegetrix is well in at the weights. Miami Mountain is an up and coming 3 yo carrying no weight.
Captain Selvie in race 10. Looks a boat race between her and Play With The Wind

Charleston Dawn no show. Almond Sea soft ride as expected.
Good win by Captain Selvie under a big weight.

One runner at Turffontein on Thursday
Warning Light in race 5. Can follow up on debut win, but this is much stronger against older. Paul Revere looks the one to beat

We had a good sale last week with all 12 sold, although I have kept a share in a couple of the cheaper ones. Highlights were the One World colt out of Elusive Heart  at R1.1m (Vaughan Marshall) and the Sylvie filly by Kommetdieding at R900k (Sean Tarry)
Put them both in your notebook for next year.
Interestingly, a New Zealand stud farm bought two of our fillies- I think to initially race here.
The full sister to Golden Tatjana (Erupt- Goldandsilver) will probably be the first one of my draft to win a juvenile race next season.
Overall we were 7th on aggregate, and averaged just shy of R400k, which was the sales median.

warning Light all at sea early but finished well in 3rd. Will improve further and standside track.

2 runners at Greyville on Sunday.
Floral Kingdom debut in race 1. Very nice filly but bred for further. If not too green can run well. A couple of well bred first timers to consider, but the best of those that have run is Rushing Chimes.

Golden Angel in race 4. Tough draw but she is fit and well. Needs luck in running in a very open and competitive race.
