Fairview Poly Feedback

I'm a fan of this track - would love to know feedback from trainers, jocks, owners etc- Did any horses pull up unsound or break down after the races? Did they pull up distressed etc - I do hope this type of track is the answer to the weather situation in SA but lightning will always halt Gauteng meetings unfortunately

All our horses pulled up well ,no obvious injuries .
Some horses worked very good on it and did not enjoy racing on .
It's a learning curve for all trainers
Topclass to all involved in putting the Polytrack in PE

In the US when stakes races are switched from the turf to the dirt they are down-graded. Will this Algoa Cup now be classified as a Listed race?

I think that's unfair as the quality of the field was not affected by the change of surface

But some horses were affected by the surface?

and if they had raced on the turf and some were affected by the soft going?

the owners had a choice to withdraw from the race.
i agree with Mr. H that the quality of the horses remained the same

I dont think its fair to compare grass (with whatever going it might be) to the polytrack. Just my opinion...
Also, the guys that brought their horses down to raid......they are surely not going to just scratch their horses and would have obviously taken the chance as it was a big race.....

OK, racing went ahead and all......great and commendable

It would be nice to know if any owners/trainers from that main race was a bit annoyed that the surface changed?

I am receiving very good reports. I think that the Shams have hit the nail on the head, as usual. Its a learning curve, but a great one. Well done to Phumelela, RA and all the PE racing people !

The only negative was that some visiting horses had never set foot on the surface before. As Shams say, some will love it and some wont, same as wet vs firm, Turf outer vs Turf inner. That's racing. Also, the track is very fast and horses need to get used to it, through training on it. In the end, in the first weekend of its existence, the Poly surface proved its worth to us when mother nature throws us lots of rain.

Now to put Turf on Vaal Sand and Poly on Turf Inner.... :)-D ..... just me dreaming again ! :S
