You are strange. Why is it that if one does not agree with you you get heated. Oh yes you are English and the English are always right, right?

Australia are off form, it happens to all. Look how kak the Proteas are in 20/20 and ODI are at the moment. Look how crap the West Indies were and now are becomming a major force again. You can't judge a team because they have had a poor bowling day. This debutant has been incredible. Its difficult to win in India (somehow England fluked it).

england didnt fluke anything against india they played the better cricket and deserved to win...flukes happen in one day and 20 20 crap not over 5 days and 4 tests ...west indies are still shit in tests

Oz used to have a powerful team and everything else was built around those individuals. It didn't matter if the temps had a good or bad day, they came and went and the core of the team was good enough to win most of the time ... in those glory days. As for the coach, I don't even remember who was their coach in those days ... he barely counted anyway.
Now they're all gone and Aus have to start almost from scratch. It's tempting to blame the coach because they are back down to Level 0, but it was something that was going to happen anyway, no matter who coached them. Whoever took that job was going to look like a poephol.
If Arthur did anything stupid, it was to take over a team that had once been great and was no longer so. People in Aus are hurting and of course they are looking for someone to blame. They always used to win! They expect their team to go on winning! So why can't they? It must be someone's fault! Sack the coach!
As for what's now being called Homeworkgate, people are forgetting that there's more to that story than just the Homework. Arthur has been as frank as he can, within the limits of confidentiality. Obviously there is more to the story than we are hearing and obviously he can't blab to the media everything that is said and done within the team. If he told us all the details he would really be out of line and would justify being sacked on the spot.
So he cannot defend himself, he must just endure it as everyone tears his reputation to bloody pieces.
A guy that's accused of raping little kids gets a fair trial with all the evidence heard ... a guy that's accused of being too strict with a cricket player gets his career smashed but is forbidden to say what really happened.

Mav, I hear you but don't you think he could have disciplined them along the way rather than letting it come to this? He has to an extent created the problem for himself... he says it is a cumulative thing, which it may well be, by why not deal with the problem then at the outset rather than leaving it until now and taking what appears to be somewhat draconian measures? I don't claim to know the disciplinary procedures etc in cricket but perhaps a week's wages or whatever would have been better than dropping four from an already embattled team quite so publicly.

Englander, I just don't know. Maybe Arthur tried talking to them and they wouldn't listen? He's no doubt feeling under pressure himself, and maybe lost his cool ...
Having said that, anyone who could survive the politicking that goes on in SA around sports teams has to be pretty pressure-proof. But then he had the support of most of the team whereas this one seems to have developed a culture of indiscipline and disrespect.
As for banning someone from a match, remember AB de Villiers got banned from two matches, not for behaving badly but for a slow over rate. Presumably a slow over rate is therefore regarded as twice as heinous as being cheeky and "failing" to do the assessments required by the coach?

Mav, I'm not judging the right or wrongs of the punishment, in any job you have to do what the boss says or suffer the consequences, whatever your personal feelings. Assuming certain players are showing scant regard to the coach then I would say the coach is obviously right to punish them. But, especially if he wanted to avoid a public backlash (which was fairly predictable), he should have stamped on it from the outset instead of allowing it to fester and come to the point where he drops four players from the side. I just think he could have dealt with it differently and better... imho

OK, point taken. I've no quarrel with what you said, actually. Maybe I'm just irritated by other people's clueless judgements ... I read a couple of cricketing blogs.
peace, bro.
