Phumelela why didn't you stick to your advertised entrance fee ?
15 years 6 months ago
As is well documented on this site, I am no longer an R.A. member. If I had tried hard enough I probably could have got a free entry ticket to the course. ( in fact I was offered one, when on the course already )
I was quite happy to accept that I would pay the Summer cup entry fee.. I went to my local COMPUTICKET where I purchased the ticket, but I was informed that it was R 75.00 I queried this fee but was told basically - cough up or don't go.
The advert in the computerform clearly states that " R75 admission fee at the turnstyles " it also states
" buy your Sansui Summer Cup entrance ticket for only R50 at any Computicket outlet "
My main gripe is why can't P stick to the advertised pricing structure ? One sure way to loose friends & make enemies.
By the way does anyone know what the turnout figures were on the day ? We've still got a long way to go to match the Met & the July.

Scotia, if that figure is correct...then that's a piss poor turnout.
Looks like every person on course arrived in their OWN car, cause there sure were a lot of cars in the centre of the track, including mine.

Did they not call it the "Early Bird" promotion ? maybe there was a time limit..
Absolutely shocking attendance, they should have realised the bookings were bad and handed out freebies all over town..

hibs, there is no mention of cut off date or time in the advertisement in Computaform.... it just said buy away from the course - it's cheaper.... perhaps another advertising blunder / omission ?

Well it`s all down to marketing,my local track (Musselburgh)wen`t from being Bankrupt to sold out every meeting during the summer(they only have 21 fixtures though) with a record crowd this summer of 9000..
To think the place has knowhere near the facilities(that the SA tracks have) and charge £15 -£30 to get in,and a roast beef sarnie costs about a tenner it surely can`t be the costs that is getting the crowds back?

I have to agree again with all...this was a poor days racing..poor attendance..music certainly was not aimed at the on course clients..I really think it just shows that although racing in Jhb might generate tote turnover but as a event to attend it just gives no appeal and in fact I wish I had stayed at home taken Daryl Marees pa and had a good sleep.
I had invited 2 possible future owners who on the day asked me how long is it between races and I said about 35 mins..they asked what do you do in between races and I said you try get a bet on waiting in a queue and they said thanks but they would rather give it a miss..they had heard the adverts on the radio for the day and thought it might be fun but rather asked to see exactly what happens there...and that did not appeal to them at all.

whats your guys opinion on having 12 races instead of the normal 8 or 9,what do they do overseas on their big days have the normal amount of races or have more..for me 12 races is way to many and makes the day extremely long especially for people new to the industry
