Which queue were you in Oscar, the one up the stairs or the one out the door. Last time I was there approx month ago for a simple licence renewal there were 6 service points and one person working very slowly while all the others were stuffing around behind the glass screens.

Gajima its one thing waiting in the queue but when I got to the front after 2 hours of waiting I witnessed two of the three people who were behind the counter in the office...the one was doing the others hair..platting it or something similar..that lasted for 20 mins whilst the third lady behind the counter was debating with one of the customers whether or not she should give him her cell no...thr queue at that stage was up the stairs and out the door.
Unbelievable

Inefficient government departments are not a new concept. The yanks on TV always joke about the disgruntled postal workers. They even refer to people going "postal" when they loose it.
This inefficiency is a problem worldwide wherever the task is repetitive and menial. Again, I do believe that the world has advanced in terms of technology and is able to find more efficient ways to deal with the logjams found in these departments.
Unfortunately you are not going to attract go getter's to these types of jobs and all you will ever get is people working for a wage. It was this way in the pre 94 and is the same now.
On the plus: There was a young boy and his mom in our office today. They were visiting one of our long term insurance consultants. I overheard the recpetionist speaking to him and asking how he is enjoying living abroad, to which he replied "I cant wait till I'm 18, I will be coming back home. Mom and dad can stay there if they like" Young white boy 15/16 or so. The grass is not always.....
Unfortunately there will be a run off of the old school way of thinking, from all races, once this has died with them, then we may be able to move on as South Africans. Not to say that we should not discuss this and try and open hearts and minds.
Get rid of the criminals and you are left with ...... is greener on this side.

Hear! Hear!Alcaponee!
Cheers for your comments!
Yes, instead of grumbling, let's use the avenues available to us...and flood them with our complaints! The President's 'hot line' for instance - 17737!
Yesterday, the missus went to Southgate Post Office for renewal of my vehicle licence (without the renewal notice). No hassles; ID, old docs and fill in a form. She was out within 15 minutes! Same with the TV licence!
At the Soutdale ABSA I commented to the Receptionist that snr citizens like me, and disabled, cannot wait so long in the queues; within a month, there was a notice by the very first Teller's office- PENSIONERS! Plus, chairs to sit on whilst waiting!
BUT, the Citizen is always late or never on a Saturday despite complaints; this morning, it's still not in by almost 8am! No Sunday Times on a Sunday! They promise re-delivery, and it never comes! Yet, this paper is always squealing about service delivery! Is this not robbery? You pay upfront and they don't supply!
Different strokes for different areas (or people)?

The guy that wrote the maths handbooks....
JP vd walt..he is one of the 3 authors
he was my maths teacher in std6
algebra...this is what he taught me...
FIRSTLY... UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM
SECONDLY.. UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM
THIRDLY... UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM
ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM
MAKE PEACE WITH THE PROBLEM
MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE PROBLEM
NOW...we are ready to find a solution to solve the problem
1.factorize
2.completion of the square
3.substitution
4.formula
5.graphically
and that how one solve most of the problems in life..
HOWEVER
he rather deny that the problem exist
he rather blame the people that make us aware of the problem
he rather refuse to get advice
THAN to
ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM
MAKE PEACE WITH THE PROBLEM
MAKE FRIENDS WITH THE PROBLEM
The reality is surfacing fast..very fast..
An entire province under curatorship..
the other provinces will follow suit...
soon..might even abolish provinces.....
+860 towns councils are bankrupt.......
cannot pay ESCOM and WATER.............
PTA...will go under curatorship soon...
then many will follow..................
SABC banckrupt..
looted by white collar pirates.........
ESCOM banckrupt..
Spoornet banckrupt..??..CEO and R800m contracts
SAA banckrupt.......??..since Coleman Andrews
LANDBANK looted.....1000,s of MIllions missing
IDC looted..R200M to BEE mine group missing
+840 JSE listed companies are all looted..bull.... the investors...
busy looting the banks..
how..very smart way.....
Groups of 2 or 3 ex bank employees are driving around daily..
offering bank loans up to R150K
you must pay them 10% once the loan money is in your account
clerk in bank transfers R100K to your account................
you sign loan documents with back office manager..............
justification...
bank made a mistake with transfer
customer spend the money
dont dispair..we fixed the problem..
got customer to sign loan agreement.
dont report the mistake..
let it go thru as a loan............
these groups..I know 3 of them
see on average 2 guys a day..
10% of R100K = R10K x 2 guys per day X 20 days per month
R400K per month they make...
we can call them private bankers...
or
do we call them white collar pirates...
they just do what they have seen their peers do...

are you saying Andrew, that the downward spiral is in such an advanced stage that it HAS TO hit the bottom before anything can be/will be done and that everyone in business down there in SAF is just being dragged along until it hits the wall?? It's a waiting game now then like crash test dummies, strapped in the car, its moving at xx mph and here comes the wall???

Oscar writes...
....Andre what you think about the SABC debarcle mate?...
its going to go much worse..before it changes...
it the only way the business people will learn..
we are not unique..
in every country where we had a revolution, a second revolution follows which is more violent than the first revolution..
the time period between the first revolution and the second revolution is determined by the country's wealth...
the second revolution...russia..zim..what happens before that...
LOOTING OF THE FINANCIAL SYSTEMS..
the SABC is unfortunate that they are the decoy......
to distract the public attention from................
The numbers are much worse in the following...
ESCOM
SPOORNET
SAA
NORTHWEST PROVINCE + all the MUNICIPALITIES in the province
LANDBANK
IDC
TOWN COUNCILS
DON WRITES..
...are you saying Andrew, that the downward spiral is in such an advanced stage that......
+72 JSE listed (+840 at a given time) and 5 government owned companies would be considered as a fair example..
thats the number I have been around in the last 28 years...
What we see in RSA has got nothing to do with the GLOBAL recession..
The effects of the RECESSION wil hit us 2nd or 3rd quater next year only...
what we see now is 4 things.
1. the effects of not moving fast enough from FUNCTIONAL DRIVEN BUSINESSES to PROJECT DRIVEN BUSINESSES during the late 1990's and early 2000's
Cosatu wanting to stay in FUNCTIONAL DRIVEN MODE and employ more staff, abolish labor brokers (required for PROJECT DRIVEN BUSINESSES).
2. the appointment of double the number of staff since 2000 (FUNCTIONAL DRIVEN STAFF) due to EE Act..now payroll a liability 28% of turnover..should be 16.5%
3. the effects of White collar Piracy looting of every possible company or department
4. the effects of moving the interest rate up by 5 points and then down by 5 points within a 18 month period..should have left it at what the rate was..or even have dropped it by 1% or 2% at the time..to stimulate the economy..
What you will see from the 3rd and 4th quater 2010 (after the soccer)
1.Most Functional Driven Bussiness have capsized...there is no money...to cover the expenses of these corporations...see SABC..ESCOM...
2.Remaining Functional driven Businesses have scaled down to minimum staff
3.Technology being used to answer maintenace questions..getting rid of staff
web interfaces to see whatever you need to resolve...
call centre's being used..
like the presidents hot line..
like the payments for small businesses that are outstanding..
4.town councils will all be under curatorship...Nothwest province is...
ps..then there are no provinces left..as the auditor general (central government) will control the town councils..
5.Very High unemployment as almost half the current work force of 8m will have lost their jobs due to..
A. companies retrenched staff to get within the 16.5% salary factor
B. companies that have gone banckrupt due to looting..
..SABC would be closed down if they were listed on the JSE
..the same with ESCOM.
..the JSE would suspend trading..
C. companies closing down because of Cosatu drive to ban labor brokers
D. companies closing down due to non payment by Central, Provincial and towncouncil government...
6. Bank will close due to..
A. they have not sold any products during the last 12 months
B. their customer base has been depleted..most on ITC
C. their customer base has been retrenched..half the current workforce of 8m
7. Pension funds will announce the truth..
A. they are broke
B. close down
BUT all will turn for the best...
If you can sit on your hands till about 2015..
life will be good again..
the year 2016..bumper year..history repeats itself..no crystal ball required.
