Sorry to say, but even Madiba (for all his magic) did not address this issue jointly with De Klerk; we heard of fears, assurances, 'sunset clause', etc but no tangible vehicle to resolve and unite.
The end result with sit with: a repetition of the NP circus wherein a handful of Afrikaners became super rich (Afrikaner enrichment) whilst the rest languish.
The pattern is the same; the middle class (black & white) are used against the mass by being given crumbs (good job, perks, car allowance, cellphones...) whilst the enriched get the cheese and the wealthy maintain their status. We are the suckers.
Classic example is the corporatisation of the horseracing industry in Gauteng. First, they played up to the whites (who were members of the then Racxing Clubs):
1. We are under threat;
2. Horseracing will die;
3. So will your privileges...blah, blah!!!!!
Then they threatened Govt-
1. if you dmeand transformation (25% black), the industry will die with thousands of blacks losing their jobs! (Over 3 000 did lose jobs, starting from the tracks to Telebet operators when they unilaterally changed their terms and conditions of employment, went on strike and were dismissed in one shot!) Today, they claim to be doing a lot for blacks with a few faces here and there.
Similarly, many whites lost their positions, were downgraded, or just left out of sheer frustration; except for the blue-eyed ones!
2. By hijacking negotiations, they kept the majority (unconneceted) white punters out of the arena until they got full control of the industry! We will find a strategic partner; that ended up being themselves and having majority shares in the entity!
They exploited white fears with emotive language; 'blacks will eat the bloody horses up! what do they know about horseracing? these idiots will mess up the industry!, etc... remember?
Today, to join the RA, you need to cough up almost a grand- yet, this is supposed to be a Section 21 Company, having received the assets of the industry virtually gratis, plus the kitty in the Horseracing Development Fun!
You want to be someone; brag to Government that you did this for soccer, or, attended a trade union rally, or, were there for the protests- then, you are a white hero, deserving of accommodation above even blacks who sacrificed their all during the struggle!
3. Today, punters and small owners, breeders, etc are crying. Do they realise that they have been used just as much as black voters are?
Ironically, white man (with maningi dollars!) is still the 'baas'!
All this boils down to: CLASS DISTINctions IN A CONTROLLED CAPITALIST ECONOMY (IF NOT MONOPOLY)!
We are used against one another (like condoms) until the next hurdle or proposal.
EE does not affect the elitists; let's get that right from the outset!
So, what is the solution?
Join the mass in their demands on Government; think in terms of their mindsets- socialism, nationalisation, National Health, etc....become a COMRADE!
BUT THIS TIME, for all, black, white or brown!
Not only there might be practical sanity in it, but also security!
We are all looking for solutions- together we can!
