Doing Ad Lib Live TV is difficult. These so called pros who sit in News Studios and read the running script would all fall short especially when predicting an outcome of an event over which you have no control of whatsoever. Those who sit in and critize ask yourself one question. Can I do better and if the answer is yes then I am sure that Tellytrack would love to hear from you.

Mark, I think you did well. You were thrown in deep by being left to do it on your own and I think you handled it well and had every right to be a little nervy ( Who wouldn't be ???? - I SHAT myself first time on the telly and my eyelids fluttered like a Geisha girl through nervousness ).You were much more relaxed when you were with Grant as can be expected when you first starting out. It's all about CONFIDENCE and the only way you gain that is through experience. It's about peoples perception of presenters - There will be those who like you and those who never will.

Will telltrack employ me as the camera man..
showing the horses stride down to the post...

where they get these clowns that currently do the camera work...
teletrack is actually a disaster...
wrong results....
show the wrong side of the horse going down....

best we go back to the track and watch with our own eyes...

the best is the poor guy on dissemination announcing the results...

the tote paid 3/1...
the bookmakers paid 4/1..

i understand he gets paid to say this..
but why bombard us with utter nonsense..
compare apples with apples...

if I went to the bookmaker with R50k cash on the jump.. asked for a bet on a 10/1....NO BET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
if I went to a tote window with R50k cash on the jump.. The bet will go on...

fact is...BOOKMAKERS CANNOT AND WILL NOT LAY ALL BETS..
TOTE WILL LAY AND PAY ...BOOKMAKERS only guaranteed to R200K per ticket by GOBA..dont know other provinces..

get me his address...will surprise him one day with a bud-spencer..

Chain, my intensions were never to be an on course presenter but merely to appear as Grants guest and to give punters a different point of view (Ex Jockey) and my selections. The job as presenter was dropped on my lap when Grant could not get to the course on time...... Literally 5 4 3 2 1 and go!!!! Im not a smooth talker like Mr Burg and probably never will be. I have a new found respect for TV presenters as Ive realised its a f#cking tough job. I enjoyed being a guest and anjoyed the tipping part of it but I absolutely hated the 'run the show' part of it and have realised that its not for me. I have contacted Neil Pretorius and have gracefully bowed out of the world of presenting on Teletrack. I think I will stick to golf rather.

Mark, I think you did a fab job...... and you tipped me Jake the Rake!! {thank you}

I actually applied for a presenting job at TT and well got as far as the screen test.... my screen test didnt even go live and i was a jibbering freaking idiot... suddenly forgot how to talk and pronounce words... how to read the betting - was a complete mess!! hence I never got the job!!!

I take my hat off to the guys & girls who work in the studio in front and behind the camera it is HARD HARD HARD work!!

BUT that said - I dont think the presenters should be tipping - their function should be to provide the info... scratching, jockey changes, tongue tie, betting, results, dividends blah blah blah.... also I can only imagine how difficult it is for 80% of them cos they are somehow linked to a racing yard etc etc it makes it very diffuclt to give an honest opinion on runners...

THEN in TT's defence.... its really hard to find people that have good knowledge of racing without actually being involved in racing......

Mark I never heard you and Im sure you were as green as 2 year old first timer running around the turn at Kenilworth in a pumping Southeaster!

But remember even champions need training, guidance and experience.

I'm sure any presenter will tell they were all over the show when they first started and were as uncomfortable as you were in front of the mike. From what I have heard is that you were very good as the expert assistant so to speak when you weren't anchoring the show.

Im sure Garrick didn't know the background to you anchoring the show and if he knew it was by accident he wouldn't have had so much to say. The truth is the public get a lot of tosh from Tellytrack and I reckon you were the unfortunate beneficiary of his frustration with the channel.

Its all about confidence which comes with time, I did hear you on Charls podcast the other day and you performed very well on his show. Im sure you've got plenty potential to improve and with your insight I have no doubt you would be a great asset to Tellytrack in the future.

I will say that as a presenter, analyst or whatever on the telly you gotta have a thick skin as there will always be criticism, especially with the racing public!

So take it on the chin, relax and keep some perspective. Don't take the ABC critics that seriously, we like to have a good moan at every chance we get!

As the saying goes it aint how many times you fall down, its how many times you get up!

Give Neil a call and tell him you'd like another chance, the punters will be thankful after you tip another winner!

Dear Mark Neisius,

I am replying to your post only because my post appears to have upset you - which was not my intention.

May I humbly recommend that you go back and re-read it as it is NOT an attack on your person but rather a rant at the reality that untutored people ( yourself included ) are being asked to perform a task for which you are totally untrained. So perhaps you can direct your bile at those who have set you up for potential humiliation and ridicule.

Alternatively you might like to ask yourself why you accepted the position in the full knowledge that you were ill equipped to handle it.

You did, however, raise a few other points which have somewhat perplexed me :

At no time did I suggest you bored me.

I cannot comment on your tipping ability as I only managed to stomach one of your previews where you labelled a horse a 'monty' - only for it to trot in second last, I believe. But other posters claim you tipped winners later in the day whilst I was on my way to the rugby. Well done.

If, as you claim, you 'have experience' in tipping then I am relieved to conclude that you should be able to make a comfortable living as a professional punter. Which is a lot better than I have ever been able to do. And we can all stop feeling sorry for you about the fact that your riding career was cut short through illness when you rake in the boodle by actually playing to your opinion.

I regret I had nothing to do with you riding ( or not riding ) any horse of mine. That would have been the trainer's decision. And hardly an honour as I have been blessed/cursed with inordinately slow horses on average. But at least you got a riding fee.

Nevertheless I am surprised and charmed to suddenly be your friend.

But as your newly declared friend I shall not miss you on Tellytack given your present skills level.

Regards - Garrick Bergh

PS Your spelling ain't too good either!
