Garrick dont take it personally, Im not throwing the towel in because of you. I never wanted to be a on course presenter and the thread you opened has just backed up that decision.

And Im so sorry, I didnt realise that posters have to 'spell check' there posts before they click 'post message'.

By the way the horse I rode WAS extremely slow!! Forget its name but it was a Model Man that stood aboat 17 hands and felt like it had 3 legs. I think it died of a heart attack, maybe you can remember. Ran in your infamous red and black silks.

Excellence and mediocrity are @ opposite ends of the of the scales of performance, and yet they seem so close in racing circles.People in racing and in South Africa constantly bitch about the poor service delivery, and yet so few of us are prepared to stand up and be counted. Why should anything except 'excellent' be the norm.

With the exception of Shaheen Shaw,I don't think another presenter on Tellytrack would be employable @ an international level of television presenter. Why should that be acceptable?

That is why South Africans as a norm are poor,we simply think far too small and accept mediocrity.

For now,I have no weapon except the MUTE button, but I would sincerely hope that in time that would not be needed.Somehow I doubt it.

Maybe its time to put this one to bed and let everybody unknot their knickers. But consider ( and I emphasize 'consider') this as a postscript:

South Africans have a reputation for 'saying nothing' about bad service and simply voting with their feet. Most would agree with that statement as 'consumerism' has, until fairly recently, been a somewhat foreign concept to us.

If you do agree with that statement then save yourselves the bother of wondering why our racing industry is all but deserted. The answer lies in the general mediocrity of the total racing experience in this country right now. There is barely a single aspect of the sport which would not benefit from a radical makeover and 'zero tolerance' of anything other than the very best.

Yet many of the posters are happy to trade off any type of excellence for mere 'tipping'! Strange really.......

Garrick

hit the nail firmly on the head the potential in SA is so vast but the initiative is not seized.

1: Still not 1 ladies day on the entire racing calendar
2: still not 1 of the "big meetings" turned into a 3 day spectacle
3: Still not 1 of the "big meetings" and all other race days FREE to enter
4: Still not 1 person stnading up and saying No Mas
5: Still not 1 meeting running fully as close to time as possible due to
5:1 Horse breaking through
5:2 Rain delay
5:3 Horses taking agaes to load
6: Still not 1 common method statement for the improvement of the racing experience
7: Still not 1 advert placed in the media looking for staff
8: Still not 1 betting exchange for punters
9: Still not 1 course offering a "pic nick " experience for families
10: Still not 1 Unbiased reporter

hotline - no, you're wrong. We do have the balls, but also the brains to know not to make a complete ass of ourselves on a public broadcast. Mark could have said that he wasn't ready for a live broadcast.

I feel sorry for him however that he was dumped in the gallbucket like that - no preparation, no training, no guidelines. Tellytrack sets a bad example...trickle down mediocrity. They've done it for years, 'agents' walking the race courses on weekends scouting for people who would like to try their hand at presenting...without offering training or information support or a test period which is not screened live!!

Mark does have potential due to his background, but give the guy a fair break in training him in journalism and presenting!! You don't put a beginner horserider in a race on a raceday do you??!!!

Well put, Don. Even Schumi didn't start his racing life in F1. It's unfair to criticize Mark just because Tellytripe may be the only TV channel on earth that hasn't heard of a screen test.
