garrick like i say, butter dont melt in your mouth. it must be grate to be able to walk on water like you.
please get hold of niel pretorius and ask for a 1 day trial. i will give you a list of all the faults you make. i am sure their will be plenty. i will say now, i can never do that job without making a fool of myself. well done to mark nesius, i respect the fact that he had the BALLS to take the job up with little time to prepare. Mark you did well, dont let the clowns put you off. what you now about horses, the leervis only dream about. please reconsider your "retirement", i dont care about um, um, err, mmm you tipped us winners my boy, well done!
one thing that make me laugh is piere strydom chirps. he says that the grandstand jocks have never rode a loser. how do you ride the presenting horse mr leervis?
ps. my spelling is bad but i bet its better than yours in my language!

This whole debate is centered aroound whether or not those that are presenting are capable or not.
Garricks point is that the actual general presentation skills of the presenters are poor, and I have to agree. It's has nothing to do with whether they are good people or good tipsters, but rather that they are not trained presenters. We have become accustomed to mediocrity in this country,so most people don't even notice. It's easy to make statements like I am nervous etc etc,but thats not my problem sitting at home.If that is your chosen profession then you have to deal with whatever it throws at you.
You can't apply for an accounting job if you don't have an accounting degree, similarly for a lawyer,so why should just anyone be employed as a presenter when their presenting skills are poor.
I say again, presenters should not have to be tipsters,so that should not be the qualifying criteria for whether one gets a presenting job or not.A racing knowledge is obviously essential, but presenting skills should be paramount.

we have now got tellytrack management to find the correct and qualified person in mark neisius to tell us who cannot get to the course how horses look in the parade ring and on the way to the start and now garick and jap want the guy to spreak fucken perfect english and go for speech and fucken drama lessons..i would rather listen to mark neisius than any other presenter as he knows what he is talking about..as i have said before the presenter on course is the eyes for the punter off course and tipping winners is not his job.if you watch willie carson covering the derby and oaks he doesnt tip horses he tells you how the horse looks in the paddock and how it goes to start.

LOL
You are so missing the point. It has nothing to do with speaking perfect english.I happen to think that Mark talks a lot of sense, and I am not targeting Mark at all anyway.I am just saying that the general presentation skills on offer at Tellytrack are poor.People get ahead in life by bettering themselves,so if I was a Tellytrack presenter I would try and improve in areas that those that are their critics are identifying as their weak points.Nobody has to give up their job,but either they or their employers should ensure that the best job possible is done, that's all.
Pirates if your attitude is that you are prepared to just sit back and let mediocrity rule then that is your choice,I prefer speak up and maybe, just maybe the level of presentation will improve.

jap i am sure that with time mark will improve his queens english and will be talking like prince charles however i am prepared to put up with his um er ums .i have been a harsh critic of tellytrack presenters for ages and still am as many of them do not have a clue what they ARE TALKING ABOUT besides their poor presentation skills and use of the english language..neil p is going in the right direction by getting experts to be our eyes and ears at the racecourses..please i would rather listen to mark than to someone who cracks jokes and tells you who each horses grandfathers and aunties are BUT HAS NO IDEA of how the horses look or canter down..

The proletariat (from Latin proles, "offspring") is a term used to identify a lower social class; a member of such a class is proletarian. Originally it was identified as those people who had no wealth other than their sons. The term was initially used in a derogatory sense, until Karl Marx used it as a sociological term to refer to the working class
you see i am uneducated and need to google this word to see the meaning. I am not ashamed to admit this.
as per a previous post "justanother that is fair comment. unfortunately mr leervis does come across as a superior now it all asshole."
i rest my case

This is JUST typical of the rot in SA racing.
As soon as someone speaks out and says something different he/she is WRONG. The masses rally together and bind quicker than the concrete at the Burj.No One takes the time to read the actual criticism being tabled they just assume its a personal assault.
For the record:
If i meet a bloke and for some reason i dislike him and 2 years later i find out he has a terminal illness that does not infuse me with an abundance of forgiveness and admiration for the bloke coupled with a burning desire to now like him. I still dont like him.
The illness that the person in question on here has albeit horrible IT WAS HIM that brought it up.
As for Mr Garrick i have never met the guy nor ridden any of his horse from my couch BUT what it seems he was saying was that the overall standard of presenting was found wanting and most certainly the powers that be could do well getting better prepared people on board.

To 'Easy' -
This thread is now starting to resemble a true story from a few years back :
A school that I attended ( so we are going back to the dark ages! ) started granting scholarships to black pupils. ( These were the apartheid days well before 'learners' and 'previously disadvantaged' became politically correct terminology ). It was a tricky process which quickly elicited threats from the state centering around withdrawing the tiny subsidy that the school was entitled to.
Nevertheless it gave a small handful of young people a shot at a top class education. Or any education at all.
The problem was that the real opposition to this programme actually came from the townships themselves. Consequently the youngsters had to leave home in the mornings dressed in their 'civvies' and change into their uniforms at school.
Inevitably the day arrived when one of the scholarship pupils made the mistake of returning home in his uniform as it was late at night and he probably believed no one would notice. But notice they did and the youngster was killed in front of his mother.
As you say - striving for excellence does not appear to be an industry objective!
