Floating around the internet is a little joke which goes like this:-
“I became confused when I heard the word “Service” used with these agencies:
South African Revenue “Service”, South African Postal “Service”, Telkom telephone “Service”, South African Police “Service”, Civil “Service”, MTN / Vodacom / Cell C / Virgin / DSTV Customer “Service”. This is not what I thought “Service” meant.
Then today, I overheard two farmers talking, and one of them said he had hired a bull to “Service” a few cows. BAM! It all came into focus. Now I understand what all those agencies are doing to us. No Longer Confused!”

Has racing in SA ever been in a worse position than where it is now?Are those people getting huge wages doing good for racing? Can we see these people bringing racing back to what it used to be?If the answers are no why are they still employed?A little punter like myself has no say but surely the owners and trainers can do something about this situation. What about a vote to see who stays and who goes. The grooms don't like what's happening so they doing something about it the rest of us are just accepting things and if the people who can try make a change don't then racing in SA could be a thing of the past.

.....yet another brilliant article by Robyn Louw.....really gets to the crux of the problem.....the top heavy system is unsustainable and these so called "execs" are raping racing.....they do very little than a few MC performances at big events......and go about back slapping each other and besides the big basic salaries.....are additionally showered with bonus and perks while racing continues on its downward slide.....they now are truly exposed....time for change....

Phumelela and racehorse trainers in Phumelela regions will no longer engage with any political party on grooms’ wages and other issues related to grooms following an illegal protest by grooms at the Randjesfontein training centre in Midrand on Wednesday.
JULY 12, 2018
It is believed that the illegal protest by grooms was organised by the EFF following some trainers retrenching grooms in order to be able to afford the minimum weekly wage. This amount was agreed to at recent meetings between trainers on one side and EFF and grooms’ representatives on the other.
Randjesfontein-based Geoff Woodruff, speaking on behalf of all trainers at the centre, said: “We have negotiated in good faith with our grooms and reached a settlement. We have told the EFF that they are a political party and have no business meddling in a labour dispute and that we will not speak with them further.
“They constantly harass grooms, trainers and assistant-trainers, and threaten violence towards anyone who tries to go about their daily work. The grooms feel very intimidated and fear for their safety, and have been given no choice but to participate in the illegal strikes.
We feel that it’s time now to bring this kind of behaviour to an end.”
