Cape Racing

Seems to be in a bad state without the Mayfair Speculator horses.Only 65 horses entered to contest 8 races( on 27 th ) in the middle of their Season .Might as well close up shop.

3 meetings the week after, maybe holding on to their horses

And that's before the scratchings.

The very small fields has nothing to do with the furor around the Mayfair runners...traditionally the yards struggle because most of the grooms are away with family in the Eastern Cape. Happens every year..

Have to disagree with you,Perpetual.Vaal Classic racing on Thursday has 128 runners compared to the 59 in Cape Town today.Sad reflection on Cape trainers who are always complaining about not having enough races for their horses.Bigger fields, bigger pools, bigger interest or are they all trying and hoping to do a "Justin Snaith" act on the "big"days and win 5/6 races????

The race meeting for the 1st must be in doubt. At the moment there isn’t much acceptances.

Not really, two of those races probably will be abandoned and the other racess he has put in horses to save the race, race day there will be scratchings. Looks like another race day with very small fields if they go ahead.

Cape Racing is pathetic. This centre continually struggles to field decent numbers. Using todays card, the following trainers have no runners:
D Kannemeyer
ELP Steyn
WG Prestage
DM Katz
WA Nel ( 3 carded but all scratched )
H Crawford
P Kruyer ( what has happened to this guy he used to be decent? )
AD Steyn
MR Allie
The situation is worse when you do the maths.
65 CARDED 8 races ave 8 runners per race
6 scratched
6 Raiders
2 trainers in top 10 no runners
12 trainers less than 5 runners
Its become a joke.
To rub salt in the wounds, Larry has been pushing double figure stakes increases for the Cape ever since Kenilworth Racing was established at the expense of Joburg owners. Why?
PE racing on Friday 9 races 112 horses carded ave 12 per race. I suppose all the Cape grooms are helping?

If this meeting goes ahead it would be the first cape meeting in a long time that jooste only has 1 runner on the day.
Probably running as he only has a share in it.Where are the rest of the horses?

If this meeting does not go ahead 1-1-18(it should not) will it be the first time in modern history that there is no New Year's day meeting? Should have carded Gauteng meeting rather - I know I punted almost every New Years day though most I don't remember as I was still drunk!!
