Interesting.

I have to say that they have my support in this when I compare how the Cobalt positives were handled. The caffeine positives were as a result of food not as a result of doping.

I wish this goes ahead and the meeting is cancelled.

Sending a direct message to those running this organisation that they are serious.

I further hope this encourages punters that they too have the power to do same.

Suppose they think Racing won’t survive without them

I doubt it, i think most are just having a long weekend over new year. The next race meeting has 200 entries and i think there will be big fields.Snaith has many horses.

The debate around the poor subscription and support of the Durbanville New Year’s Day racemeeting took another turn today when Kenilworth Racing produced a tangible gesture of support for trainers.
The local racing operator has announced that they will be paying trainers R1000 per horse that crosses the finish line on the day.

The gesture, said to be a show of appreciation for support, comes amid various rumours doing the rounds as to why only 52 horses have been accepted for the eight races on the card.

Whether the token financial gesture solves the underlying causes of the apathy is another matter entirely.

It simply costs the operator R52 000 on what looks like a loss-making racemeeting – and sets a potential precedent for the future.

A close call of throwing the baby out with the bath water – or crisis management?

Who gets the 1K?
is there tax deductions?

just sink the meeting. UK TV agreement probably at risk if they do.

Looking at the amount of ex-WCP horses in PE on today's card - and every week really - I'm thinking this has to be a factor on the WCP horse population and the small fields; and could be easily rectified.
Yes, those horses my might not be competitive in Cape Town anymore, but if a few more Maiden races with conditions (like "reserved for horses that haven't won in 5 outings") and a few more lower Handicap races could see those horses remain in the Cape a little bit longer.
Have those races midweek, keep the higher handicaps for the week-end to try and lure people to the track with the attraction of competitive racing.

I enclose comment from Herald PE Racing Columnist regarding Durbanville meeting on 1/1/18.
"The South African racing authorities shold have asked Fairview to help them out,as we have
seen some fair crowds-and tremendous racing in the Friendly City during the holiday season."

I believe they are spot on. Week in week out PE produces bumper fields and healthy turnovers. There is no doubt that should the meeting have been offered to PE, they would have had many more runners, I believe easily double what the Cape have produced.

On the subject of double. Perhaps Larry Wainstein and his gang of yes brothers parading as directors at the RA can explain how stakes increases were approved for next year. The Eastern Cape received a shameful 6.1% and the under-performing Western Cape received a whopping 12.9%. This incidentally is the third year that the WC has received double figure increases and has benefited by the Stellenbosch mafias takeover of WC Racing. Why should the other regions continue subsiding stakes increases when they are totally outperforming the WC in terms of tote turnovers and field sizes?

Larry clearly listens to his masters voice. There is no other explanation

so are all runners in future also going to get 1k to run? I can't understand why they are paying this money- So if Gauteng trainers decide to scratch for a night meeting will they also pay those that rebel 1k to race? Very dangerous move I think

I see there isn’t a la carte menu available at the races for New Years.

Jack Milner: Rumours of a boycott by trainers of Monday’s meeting at Durbanville appear to have fallen on deaf ears in many quarters and despite the fact that just 52 runners are carded to run, the meeting will go ahead.

DECEMBER 29, 2017
Some trainers are not even sure what the alleged boycott is all about but at the end of the day conditioners such as Candice Bass-Robinson and Dan Katz have had no compunction about running their horses.

”I don’t have any reason not to,” said Bass-Robinson yesterday. “Whatever the issues are we need to solve them in other ways. There are issues that need attention but this is not the right platform to deal with them.

“We have to act in the best interests of our owners.”

Katz trains specifically for leading owner Hassen Adams who insisted that his horses run. “I thought it was very decent that the operator agreed to pay a R1,000 bonus to the trainer of every horse that crosses the line,” added Katz.

Meanwhile, if you are a believer in the saying that the smaller the field, the bigger the upset, you could be in for a shock on Monday as many races contain no more than five runners.

However, there are some runners who look to have good chances and they include Katz-trained Trip To Ibiza in Race 4, Bass-Robinson’s Meraki in Race 5, Joey Ramsden’s Dynasty’s Blossom in Race 6 and Forehand in Race 8, Dennis Drier’s charge, looks the best bet at the meeting.

Spin Spin Spin - If there are "rumours" then call the trainers that have an issue not those that don't know anything about it and pretend there is nothing wrong - Can you actually beleive this propoganda - and we know why the 1k just to prevent scratchings so exotics can at least get some turnover - Pumelela should never have held this meeting -
