Savasp, local racing has a lot of issues ,mainly regulatory and management ,but the industry fortunately also has areas and people doing a great job - the Sham stable has shown itself to be one of the most CONSISTENT in the country and also an amazing record of improving horses, which keep reproducing their form - sometimes we must just give credit to hard work and effort ........................if there was anything suspicious about this, specimans would have put them out of business ages ago.
Lets remember that we need to differentiate between medication and dope!!!!!

(I have no horses in the stable or any connection. Its just what the "patterns" tell me)

This game is not about flipping a switch and expecting things to happen as expected, the sooner people realise that there is not something sinister in every unfavourable result, the better it will be for all. We are talking about flesh and blood after all, not machines.

I recall something that happened to me many years ago, I would say either 1978 or 1979. A work colleague had a share in a horse with Jim Brady stabled at Newmarket. The stable thought highly of the horse and he had run two good races over the sprint distances. The plan was for the horse to run 1300 at Newmarket where he was expected to win. Brady invited my colleague to come watch the final workout on the Saturday morning prior to the Wednesday race, and I was kindly asked to join him. Needing no further encouragement I agreed, and ventured through to Alberton from Robertsham where I lived in those days at some very early hour. Brady had entered a 1st timer in the race along with our horse and had craftily put Raymond Rhodes on the 1st timer whilst Toobie van Booma was on our horse. At the time Rhodes was a far more established jockey and it was hoped the bookies would price up accordingly.Well the final gallop saw my mates horse win easily easing up. Van Booma pronounced this race over for Wednesday and we were itching to have a bet. As I worked for a financial institution in the CBD I could not take the day off but proceeded to take my lunch hour to fit the race in and went to the Loveday street tatts where the race could be followed over the blower. The horse opened up 6/1, and was backed into favourite. I managed to get 1000/200 in those days a huge bet and I think I earned less than 800. To make a long story short, the 1st timer cruised in winning easily at 20/1. I know for a fact Brady had a sizeable bet on the wrong one.

It is not an easy game!

Guys sorry if I offended anybody on the forum, but the forum is here for us to say what we think, sometimes our thinking may not be correct and others correct us,so sorry again. Len and to you as well, your stable is one of the better stables around.

Every stable should know what medication has been given to every horse in their yard and how long that medication lasts in the horses blood.Trainers do take blood specimens so make sure that the medication has run it's course and is not found in the horses blood before running it.

Hi Bob

As you may remember I do not post but am a regular visitor to ABC.

If you like you could post this short piece for me on the above subject.

" I live in Port Elizabeth and race every Friday (God willing) but seldom at the course.

I have never met the Sham's but have followed their stable from day 1. If I owned a horse there is no doubt that I would ask the Shams to train it for me.

They always appear to be friendly helpful and philanthropic. I have only ever heard good stories about them and the stable is a breath of fresh air in Port Elizabeth. If there is an incident in the offing I would be greatly surprised where it anything more than pain or illness medication what had not yet worked its way out of the system.May you go from strength to strength!

It is a pity that the snide remarks by some people on the site have caused them to stop posting their info as I now have to use my nut!!"

Good to see so many good things written about a stable.
If Bob could maybe revive posts by clanner Radetzky who was a small owner and had some unfavourable experiences in P.E.?

Bob all I can recall about Radetzky was how passionate he was about his horses and he tipped them for all to see on ABC.Then came the unpleasantness.

Oh, let us not forget to remember clanner Homer also who also had a few horses all over the country.Sadly he was also subject to unfavourable situations in P.E. racing as per his posts at the time and he stopped racing in P.E .In fact last word was his intention to race in France.

Strange world?
