LD's Betting Diary - Chapter 2

I have now refined my system! I will try and test the new system over 20 bets. The idea is to join the ranks of the supposed 2% of all punters that can show a long term profit. I am a hobbyist when it comes to this as my time is quite limited. I'm also going to test some of the advice I've seen given on this forum. The system is very selective, which it needs to be according to some ABC members on the "Mentor" thread, so this system is definitely not for action junkies. In fact it will probably bore most of the forum readers.

I am going to put R20 on the win and R40 on the place bet when my selections qualify. Gregbucks has in the past recommended I try this betting structure, one betting unit on a win, and two betting units on a place. Loopy Logic is a big fan of place betting, so this should make the system more interesting. Will the win bets be more profitable than the place bets, time will tell.

My system is based on a premise of backing worthy favourites, so I will only put the money down if they indeed start as the lone Interbet favourite, joint favourites don't count. I will look at the tote and Interbet market and look for the best price when I put my money down. Due to the volatility of the tote, I realize I may get some nasty surprises with my tote bets, hopefully some nice ones too.

Today my system only likes one selection, YAWN, I know.... but here it is...

SHE'S A LOOKER in race 7 at Turfies, if it starts as favourite my money will be down. It's currently the joint favourite on Interbet, so I'll be keeping my eye on it...

I'm so excited! I feel like a man that has a hot first date just a few hours away! Hopefully there is a play and the system gets off to a flying start...

I like the 20% win 80% place route as you might find your horse running a drum at 6-10 and you still show a small profit- I also find that if I like a horse at 5-1 or better then I float in the exacta with as close to field(obviously you can eliminate the no hopers but more than once I've been burned doing this) - Often that horse runs second and an outsider wins and you suddenly get an exacta div of R100 plus

SHE'S A LOOKER has drifted into 3rd favourite on Interbet betting. So it looks like I'm going to be left twiddling my thumbs today. Mr H, once my 20 bets are done, I'll look back and see if that ratio would have been better.Interesting idea though.

a terrible example of my exacta idea - I floated Bengowan Solo with about 8 horses instead of field and what do you know a dog runs second and the exacta pays R400 plus!!

Mr H, Murphy's law seems to love horse players. I can't tell you how many times my win back selections have run second or my place selections have finished 4th, one out of the money.

Okay, so no play today, but I did have some entertainment watching my would be selection run third had it been favourite. Had I bet it according to my betting plan it would have been a profitable play. I think I'm going to enjoy the new system more than the last. Maybe tomorrow something will come up...

I am going to name my new system, wait for it..... drum roll please....

"THE BORING SYSTEM!!!" tada!

I starting it on Saturday, and I have made exactly ZERO bets... YAWN... But then again I've lost exactly zero bucks playing horses since then, how many of you can say that? Of course the tipsters will claim that if you followed their tips you would have won millions, but for the casual horse players, breaking even is rare.

I keep telling myself that the point of this system is not action and entertainment, it's to try and turn a profit in the long run. If I wanted the former, I'd just go to a casino or a strip club...

The good news is that I may break the systems bet virginity today... It likes Africa Blue in the 7th. Should it start as favourite, my money will be down as per the betting plan. Here's hoping...

I've just had a look at the daily racing thread on ABC to see if anyone else out there likes my fancy... Not one at the moment, there are a few who prefer Final Score... I'm feeling nervous now and I question myself whether it is a good idea to look at forums and tipsters when I have a fancy. I mean some of these forum members are really good... I have decided that...

I WILL HAVE BALLS AND STICK TO MY SYSTEM!!!

With two hours and twenty two minutes to the off, I see that only R350 has been bet on it on Interbet, so not too much excitement there for the time being. I'm wondering if in fact it will start as favourite as four other horses have had more bet on it at this time. Maybe there'll be a late betting coup on mine.

With 29 mins to go, still no big changes on Interbet... My biggest conundrum is which place bet market to play, 1.35 offered by Interbet looks a bit mean, whereas the tote place market is a lotto...

22mins to the off, the Interbet win price has drifted out to 3.8, will my fancy start as favourite...

20 mins to go, my fancy is also the tote win favourite, but not place favourite. Maybe I'll get some value on a tote place bet... Did I just say tote and value... I must be going mad...

15 mins to the off, my selection now has the most bet on it R6820, it's starting to look like it will start as favourite, my juices are flowing and I'm getting really excited. I'm at work so I can't watch it. I'll have to wait patiently for the result on my Interbet screen..

10 mins to the off, my selection has now drifted out to joint favourite on Interbet, which means I won't bet it should it stay that way. Aaargh, this is so frustrating...

8 mins to go, it's no longer tote favourite either...

4 mins to the off. It's drifted out to second favourite now on Interbet, so it looks like no bet will be placed according to the system. I'll just be an interested spectator...
