The TONE of the above thread is is rather aggressive, as were some others as well.

LG you say we are ALL speculating which is true but then in the next sentence you say you KNOW it is a complex problem. Surely this is TT's BUSINESS and as such should of been on top of things. Apparantly TT have known since Sept 2013 of this very real THREAT to their business so wtf have they done about uptill now, but then again they at least started working on the threat/problem. IMO it is not BULLSHIT that we are kept in the dark, even you who make a living out of Horse Racing have had to SPECULATED on this issue and this by ur own admission.

IMVHO if this ASAFU was not RAISED on ABC there would not have been any Press release, and btw the one released told US absolutely NOTHING of what, why, etc, etc, etc.

ffs we do not want an hourly report but also do not want an anuual report or only when questions/concerns are raised on this site. What we want is ETHICAL business practises which means the truth so then there can be no speculation.

Tote vs Bookmakers - it appears to me it is driven by the ego of a gentleman at Phumalela who wants to close down an important section of the racing industry, bookmaking , and has never done a proper business plan before enforcing his views and in the process don't mind if all the structures falls like dominoes. ( But then again , I am guessing )
I would love to have a copy of the minutes and date , the first time the(possible) closure of channel 239 was discussed at Phumalela

Whatever you say about the bookies, they sick for gambling and horses. Whatever you say about the suits in Phumelela, they only care about horse racing to the extent they can squeeze blood from a stone. The would sell anything provided they can make a profit and so it should be for a corporation representing its shareholders.

So now the old will meet the new and you have to wonder what the result will be. Things that used to be done in cooperation is now done in confrontation. Used to be P and GC, now more P vs GC. For a while bookies and TAB co-existed, not so much now. Punters spend their money 50-50 as they liked, but now P all is theirs. They say they "need" more money than they get from their Totalisator monopoly and their Tellytrack monopoly, but they fat with profits at the end of the year.

But the biggest owners call the tune in Phumelela Gaming and Leisure via their directorships, their RA votes, their personal holdings. We can't pretend that everything happening here is an accident. They can't pretend they don't understand their 3% on TURNOVER is a tactic to rip the game open with a massive take over play.

This article at the beginning of play last year:

DIRECTORS' TRADING activity in a company’s shares can speak volumes about its prospects. In Phumelela’s case the directors’ trading message is clear: it is a share worth a closer look.

In a strong vote of confidence in the horse racing and gaming company, five of its directors have been on a buying spree, executing trades on the open market totalling R16,8m over the past 11 months.

Phumelela CEO Rian du Plessis led the field, notching up total purchases of R7,2m. He was followed by two nonexecutive directors: Investec cofounder and MD Bernard Kantor at R4,5m and Steinhoff CEO Markus Jooste at R3,8m. Executive directors Andreas Heide and John Stuart rounded off the display of optimism with purchases of around R650000 each.

Phumelela has also earned a place in one of the top-performing SA equity funds over one and three years, Investec Emerging Company Fund. “It has an attractive dividend yield [5,6%] and is cheap relative to many other small caps,” says the fund’ manager Richard Middleton.

Phumelela’s big attraction lies in its offshore diversification, set in motion a decade ago in response to the deregulation of gambling in SA in 1996. The strategy is proving to be one of the more successful undertaken by an SA company venturing globally and, says Du Plessis, still has plenty of growth potential.

multi choice reason they gave tellytrack notice is absolute bullshit considering how many people watch tellytrack in betting shops throughout the country and not at home only...the fact that the bookies lost their case to tt and now want to go to the competitions commision and drag dstv into it is the reason and dstv would not want to be seen in a courtcase and have negative exposure and be seen to be anti competitive....my opinion only

Do you think when Multichoice realised their customer applied for a broadcast licence it might have urged then to anticipate the inevitable outcome of that? They knew TT wanted to get its hands on the on/off switch for ages now trying to change clauses in agreements everywhere.

Pirates post makes the most sense in this whole thread.

And yes, Jack, if I were the Operators and/ot TT, I would certainly be wanting to switch certain bookies off, based upon their open bet activities.

Nothing else, just the open bet....

Fog, they have already issued a press release on the issue.
This is obviously also wrong in your opinion. Even a retard will understand that this is a complex issue. Based upon the fact that they have already issued a press release, I have no doubt that, due to the absence of Harry Potter and also the imagination of JK Rowlings, they are working through the many steps to a solution and that they will issue a press release upon finalisation of all.

If that is not good enough, then so be it.

LG, you do know that just like driving a combustion engine motor vehicle, that laying the open bet is not immoral, unethical, wrong or illegal? How do you justify taking action against anyone in your life if they are perfectly withing their rights, even if you don't agree? Do you try and stop a Budist because you may be a Christian? Do you picket Zuma for many wives because you think he should be like you?

Do you believe in the court process to create change, or do you instigate actions against anyone with whom you don't agree?

Win your case or back off, anything else is juvenile, and probably illegal once you are on record.

How is what you are saying any different to someone saying don't send horses to LG because he races on the sand and horses should only run on grass?

Is the Multichoice pictures that are shown in the bookies and totes ? If not then that arguement can't be used, specially in conjuncture with charging bookies an extra 3% turnover
