Imo the Derby was not up to Gr 1 level - but the panel does not have to guess - there's this thing called Merit Ratings - use them (tu)

I have no problem putting mine on a block! I respect both Rob and Pirates opinion because I know that they know this game with many of the best in the game ! But this time I think you have the horse underrated because of a few things that have changed in the last year notably his gelding. I think he will win the July on his coconut and I will buy the drinks when he wins ! I'll also happily buy for all those who say he can't win if he doesn't . In my very dazed opinion the only horse that has a hope of beating him is Pomodorro. Time will tell!

i'm not saying Wagner will win the july but just on paper he has a 7kg turnaround at the weights with Run for it plus he will be a gin strike .IMO wherever Rfi finishes wagner will be in front of him !

Shrek is correct Jet Explorer best in for July Which leaves the 3 yo's only making up the field thats on weights and the form of the 3yo's v the older horses.Just to let you know I never have a bet in the July as 20 triers with many surprises

I can't see Run for it make the final field based on his performance on the track...on what basis will they include him? gelding/trainer's opinion/old form....

I agree on Jet Explorer but if Tellina and Love Struck make the field they will be the best weighted otherwise it will be the daily news runner ups....a winner of this race will come from these three year olds.

I think they need to televise this selection process.....

JET EXPLORER - Won Betting World 1900m at Greyville on 22nd May 2013 (Grade 2)
beat the likes of GOLD ONYX (104) TRIBAL DANCE (107) E-JET (104) PESSOA (103) VIVA MARIA (102) TAIPAN (107)

RUN FOR IT (Gelded now) - Won Allowance Plate for Maidens and Winners at Greyville on 14th June 2013 (1600m) beat the likes of DISTINGUISHED (86) WAGNER (98) SHIMMER AND SHINE (81)

RFI showed plenty promise on previous runs : Ran 13th in 2011 Vodacom Durban July 5.65 lengths behind IGUGU and then ran a very impressive 4th (1.35 lengths) behind IGUGU in the J&B Met in 2012, Ran 2nd to THE APACHE in the Daily News of 2011 where he should have won, we all know how well THE APACHE has done since then. What concerns me, he's five runs at the 2000m and more have yielded some moderate performances including 13th in the Vodacom Drban July mentioned above and 15th in the 2013 J&B Met, seems like he's due for a good one.

So very difficult and he cannot be ruled out especially after been gelded, he seems a scary prospect and could get on terms with the likes of VARIETY CLUB and others should he improve further. Albeit the proof will be in the pudding on July day with no excuses, he'll have every chance of winning but for my money will still have to beat JET EXPLORER.

Imo on his MR and based on his 4th behind Igugu in the 2012 Met, RFI should be in the top 10 of the 'log'.

But I do also take note of the points put forward in terms of his never winning over further than 1600 - there must be some doubt at least about his ability to see out the 2200; so he may not be value at current odds of around 8/1; but at 33/1 ............. that was big value imo whether he has improved with the gelding or not(tu), same can be said for Wagner imo - no value at current odds, but 80/1 a place was surely very good value :S

Wagner doesn't even deserve to be in the July but being connected to Jooste he will get a run...
