I think you should leave the bookmakers alone. They had nothing to do with the start of the race. Why should they give away there money.

You mean our money... Why??? Because it's the right thing to do. Secondly what lengths would you go to keep your clients happy? Book makers have EVERYTHING to do with everything in this game.

Why MUST a bookmaker payout on the winner and a refund on the favourite. Why MUST a bookmaker give his money away? Im not saying there is anything wrong with the decision that some bookmakers made its very good advertising and a good gesture. I got a refund from paddy power on a horse that missed the last hurdle. I thought it was a good gesture. But I was not expecting it and I wouldn't try hold the bookmakers ransom for the money, like you have just done.Remember once YOU take a bet its not YOUR money.

Au contraire Russeld - it is OUR money until it is legitimaltely taken away. Even then, the collective powers a coercive unit, such as provided by ABC, can wing it in the consumers favour. It reflects good marketing and the remarkable value in democracy. Still, tough for the Tote punters and good on the bookmakers.

you obviously are not into dealing directly with customers, doing what is right for your customer has far more reaching effect than doing what is right for your pocket. Most bookies in the UK are firms who know that most opposition will highlight any shortcomings they may have. SA,to my knowledge, has more individually-owned bookies who mostly worry about themselves, and their profits before their clients. Each to their own I know but future business could depend on such jncidents and how they solve them.
