Re: Re: International Cricket

I have to correct myself - Prior is also a classy player with lots of guts - can't figure out why England does not play him in the ODI's as well - he is a much better player that Kieswetter imo.
But ................I don't rate Trott, Bell or Anderson (I do admit that Swann can at least dry up the runs from an end) - I think the Aussies were at their worst when England beat them - and anybody can beat India away from home.
So let's wait and see what happens during the Ashes - I have been known to be wrong once or twice in the past. (
)
I'm also not quite in agreement that Boucher is that much better at keeping wicket than AB - I think AB is good enough at keeping to hold his own at international level - the only 'problem' imo is that he is also a front-line batsmen - and spending lots of time in the middle can't be good in the long run - I just don't think anyone's body is up to that for long periods - something has to give. And here in SA we have another youngster (Quentin de Kock) who may be facing the same dilemma in the near future - admittedly he is sort of a stand-in keeper at the moment, but has loads of ability imo.
A bigger problem for SA is what to do when Kallis is not able to bowl - which is probably going to be the case more regulary from now on - logic would dictate to still pick him as a batsmen - but then the whole balance of the side suffers - and there is nobody imo who is ready take his place - we were fortunate indeed that the Aussies folded so quickly in their first innings in Perth - very difficult to bowl against quality batsmen for long periods with 3 seamers and a spinner that is maybe not quite up to international standard

@ Englander - "I am not trying to start an argument Mav, my darling". Oh blow, I was hoping you were. I felt like having a good argument, it clears the sinuses wonderfully. {He he he!, Mav cackles at her own wit, then coughs miserably at the screen}. Thanks for the get-well wishes, though.

Shrek... sorry mate... I got confused there, all these comments filling my eyes with red (confusion) mist!!! understand now you were not asking for results from 03... sorry... lmao
Mav... very happy to argue (respectfully of course
) if it will help your ailment
... Kallis, Smith, Philander and probably others all looked overweight to me, do you not think SA would have won more convincingly in Oz if they had not seemingly gone on an eating and drinking binge after their success in England?

The Aussies played fantastiv cricket this series, imo! If they reproduce the performances that they put up in the 1st two tests they will be very hard2beat!!!!!SA showed character and Faf showed determination and mental strength beyond a debutant to salvage a draw!!if Aussies were playing any other team they wouldve cleaned up!! SA were in huge trouble, I watched the whole test from my hospital bed-except for the last day as I had punted a draw at 8/1 and thought it was all over....ONLY to log on2 Hollywood and see my balance sky high.lol. As much as SA deserved a draw for there determination and character AUSSIES were unlucky losers! 9/10 times they wouldve won that test match!!Englander, I enjoy your posts and I always take ur 'idiots' yankees into consideration. BUT England will have to really be 'cherry ripe' to beat Aussies!! I believe urll played well to beat India-but not well enough! This India team blows hot n cold! For all we know next match they could hit 600 first innings. They are too dependant on their batsman and have PATHETIC bowlers imo!! T20 bowlers that's what they are! For ur sake I hope urll crack Aussies, but I wouldn't b surprised if urll lose..maybe back the draw? Because this Ashes is going to be a cracker imo

Blardy hell guys, honestly, I think you've all lost your minds, deluding yourselves that the Aussies are better than they really are simply because SA only just managed to beat them. No-one has mentioned any quality players the Aussies supposedly have, except me with Clarke and Hussey... are we really saying, for example, that Kallis, AB, Smith etc went in quaking at the thought of facing Hilfenhaus, Siddle, Lyon etc??? Please tell me, cos to be honest, apart from Clarke's form I saw nothing in that Australian team that was particularly impressive. What talent is it that they possess that you all noticed and I missed?
Or did SA just not perform to their abilities and make Australia look much better than they really are? And what if SA had lost? Everyone would have just said fair enough, beaten by the better, and an outstandingly talented, side would they? I very much doubt that!! lol
And (not meaning to single you out bud but) based on Frodo's analysis of the qualities of the England team... seriously, how do you become the world's number one test side with only two quality and one decent player... none of whom actually bowl (properly!)???? lol And one minute England are rubbish because they get hammered in the first test in India, but because India are useless abroad themselves England get no credit for beating them 4-0 in England. Hmmm, maybe we are using the wind a little to flow in the direction of our choosing???
If anyone can actually give some factual basis or even supported suggestive arguments to the statements being made then I'm all ears... if you can't then it does suggest that maybe there is very little substance to those statements.

@Englander, you talk about Siddle, hilfenhaus and lyon.. But I don't see any better bowlers in the England side. Swan?yes he can dry up runs at 1end! Stewert Broad?class bowler?he sulks like a lil boy when things don't go his way?Jimmy Anderson?decent swing bowler at most- when conditions don't suite him he gets put to the test and not a GENUINE 'lead the attack' bowler! Englands Back bone has been Alli Cook(with KP coming to the party last time)!!just as the Aussies Skipper was performing with Hussey coming to the party!!but don't 4gt the likes of Warner and Cowen who look very solid at times!! And please don't 4gt abt Watson!!he is a genuine All rounder(what every test side needs) who is the guy that can stand up 4 England and give a performance with both bat and ball? This is not me targeting u or England mate-i hate Aussies!! But at the moment, even thought Aussies lost to SA!! They have come out of that series with a lot of positives! England will need Trott and Ian Bell to come to the party as if Cook or Peterson fail, the order looks tooo exposed to me! Monty Panesar is a WC bowler- BUT- will he bowl as effectively on the Aussie pitches as he did in India?Lyon has showed that he is a threat on any wicket with loads of variations! Whether he is as good as I reckon,we will only see in time. BUT I have liked his style of bowling against SA! I enjoy the Ashes and I love when England play in the Ashes(their determination to win always shows) but this Ashes might be a bit too much, espcially against an Aussie side whom seem to be 'gelling' after a long transition process!
This is just me opinion and from my knowledge of the game. But as we know-just as in Horse racing-cricket can be a funny game!!
Englander, I love your passion4ur team its fantastic!! And I hope the Barmy Army come in2 their own!!
