I cannot see the sense in narrowing the turf track...surely they will build a track inside of the existing track, if they intend to narrow the turf track it will mean the closure of Greyville for an extended period and with Clairwood gone Scottsville would be the only alternative???

Titch you are always positive on things but surely something like this highlights the negative impact some of the proposals and subsequent decisions will have on Horseracing. The July event alone will be worse off for it. Where will tent town go? Races limited to 16 runners? There is even more that we havent yet even touched on. July day is a window for opportunities in SA Racing. I cant see the positive in this proposal. Scottsville inner track and some lights at Scotts the better option if this has to be done.

If they do intend to narrow the turf track then there is no doubt that it is a step in the wrong direction...

The saddest thing of all is that one of the major stakeholders is not represented in this decision making process because it simply has no representation - You guessed it - SA Horse Racings funder - THE PUNTER!!!

80% of the turf track is never used. It would need to have about 3m taken to accomodate the Polytrack or whichever surface is decided to be the best. Not a train smash at all and 16 runners and 2 reserves would not detract from the Vodacom July at all and the benefits of the all weather track will be huge.We cannot get the same number of people to Scottsville that we get to Greyville so it would make no sense to put lights there. The majority of people live in Dbn and there are not many holidaymakers in Pmb, trust me! In many countries the ambulance travels behind the horses on the grass. Just put the proper tyres on. Not a problem.

Yep I notice the ambulance chasing the horses at Ngong.

What happens to the July event. tent Town etc does it move further away from the action i.e. on the inside of the alternate track?

In Ngong the ambulance normally beats the horses

Most of the people on the inside of the track dont even see the race at the moment anyway. Mostly due to the drink consumed and partly due to it not being a great place to watch from anyway so it will not make much difference.

Craig how long do you think it would take to complete...bearing in mind that Greyville would need to be closed to racing and would work start before the closure of Clairwood??
