It's Joburg in August, when the racing is as dreary as the scenery, and why there is again no Cape racing scheduled I have no idea. I was in Joburg for the sales last weekend and didn't even bother going to the course evven though a few mates of mind had runners with a chance. The fact that the city's only remaining track is in a rubbish dump on the wrong side of town doesn't exactly add to the allure.(td)

Racing wise, August would be the best month to take my annual Italian sojourn. Unfortunately, it's also holiday month in Europe (Christmas being in winter) and it's a zoo. So I stay here and enjoy the splendours of merit rated 60 something handicaps that are run on a track so brown it looks exactly like the Vaal sand on TV. Thank heavens for York, at least.

Oh, and while I could easily end up having face egg for an early dinner, Monsieur can win without me.

in previous years the natal winter season was still on with races like the gold cup the mercury sprint and the great champion stakes still to be run in august...now we have fcuk shit and piss in august...oh how the people running this sport have fcuked it up good and proper..

Hi Magic, how do you see the Mauritian racecard and the interesting match between Acuppa and Intercontinental ??

I can understand the ''powers to be'' having a stand alone meet during the feature race season but hell when you have such a poor card like this at Turffies then surely they could of run with 2 meets today...:S

Intercontinental should have Acuppa held at the weights, in my opinion. At Turffies, I like Mother's Eyes to be even better over this longer distance, ditto Lord York, but it's a ghastly card and not being a fan of either rugby or English soccer I don't have much else to look forward to....thank fcuk for books.

I think the 2200 metres is a new challenge for the bottom two.

Al Deputy for me even though 5 kg out at the weights on last run. Bernard in the irons 1st time. has won over 2400 in SA. Preffered the greyville track even tho both wins at Scottsville. Two very good to top 3 year olds in SA.

Let's not be too harsh, Magic. Only 1 of the pick six legs is a 60 something handicap. The others are mostly 70 somethings...
