Now Douglas with a 5 timer

Entrapment sets new HK record with seventh win

Report: Sunday, Hong Kong

Sha Tin: Juvenile Sprint Trophy 6f

THE unbeaten Entrapment (John Size/Douglas Whyte) established a new record for most wins in a single Hong Kong season at a rain-drenched Sha Tin on Sunday when he recorded his seventh straight victory.

The latest nonchalant victory for this hugely exciting three-year-old came in the Juvenile Sprint Trophy over 6f, where he clearly identified himself as the most impressive new recruit to the local scene since the great Silent Witness' maiden season in 2002-03.

The presence of Entrapment and five-time winner Tai Sing Yeh scared off most other potential rivals with just four runners going to post - a field size very rarely witnessed in these parts - in this championship event reserved for horses in their first campaign of racing.

In ratings terms alone, both Entrapment and Tai Sing Yeh were ranked three classes superior to third-placed Danewin Tiger.

The race itself was uneventful. Sent off 1-10 favourite, Entrapment led, travelled sweetly and won hard held by two lengths from his chief market rival.

The quinella (reverse forecast) withTai Sing Yeh also paid the minimum odds of 1-10.

Before Sunday, a total of 24 horses tied for the record of six wins in a season since the professional era of Hong Kong racing commenced in 1971 and trainer Size had been responsible for six of that number in his nine seasons at Sha Tin.

As such, it is fitting that the brilliant Queensland-born handler, now on the verge of his sixth trainers' title, is the one to break new ground.

"These records are important and very I'm proud to be part of it," said Size. "I've said before that Entrapment is headed for the top and he certainly didn't do anything to change that point of view today.

"Obviously, he's an exceptional horse. He has been able to win on the all-weather, good ground and soft ground on the turf and hopefully we have a bit more to look forward to next season as he matures."

Size added that the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint in December would feature highly on the agenda for 2010-11.

Australian-bred Entrapment is a son ofdeceased American stallion Halo Homewrecker (by Southern Halo) out of a Vettori mare.

Elsewhere, Whyte more than rekindled his bid for a tenth consecutive jockeys' title with a superlative five-timer.

Premiership leader Brett Prebble endured a barren day and saw his seemingly unassailable advantage at the top slashed to just four wins with five meetings of the season remaining.

Whyte and Size combined for two more winners via Showtime and the very smart newcomer Enhanced in the final race.

In between, Whyte also booted home All Time High (Tony Cruz) and Final Answer (John Moore).

The last-named was winning for the second time in Hong Kong having been bought ofEd McMahon's stable after winning his only start at Sandown in July last year.

Trainer Moore made it a double in the HKJC Community Trophy thanks to Mighty High (Jeff Lloyd), formerly Berouni when stabled in Chantilly with Alain de Royer-Dupre, who gave those who backed him into odds of 1-2 few concerns by making all.

Morning Hughes is also a great jock but sure you will find its that managain Hanagan that is leading with 133, Hughes is 108 and Moore on 104 so at the moment Hanagan is the fav at around 5/10.

Ryan Moore to return at Salisbury on Thursday

RYAN MOORE is set to make a surprise comeback at Salisbury on Thursday, 24 hours earlier than expected.

Sir Michael Stoute's stable jockey, who has not ridden since damaging his wrist at Windsor more than three weeks ago, replaces Richard Mullen who had been declared to ride the Queen's home-bred newcomer Caraboss in the Quidhampton Maiden Fillies' Stakes (Division II).

Moore will also take the ride on the Richard Hannon-trained Tale Untold, who races in the Listed EBF Dick Poole Fillies' Stakes.

It had been anticipated Moore would make his return with a double shiftat Lingfield and Kempton on Friday, but he was given the all clear to bring forward his return when receiving medical clearance on Tuesday afternoon.

The three-time champion lies in third place in this year's title race, more than 30 winners behind leader Paul Hanagan.
