Simply put I would say it was another failure with regard highlighting the sport. Unfortunately I was in Cape Town and would have loved to have been there, but quite honestly whats makes a great race meeting is the vibe and the vibe is created by a bumper crowd, it's a buzz we probably last saw consistently in the early 90's, now only available on Met and July days and even then 80% of the crowd don't know the horses arse from it's elbow.

PEJ,
I'm glad you had a good day. I wish I were able to attend.
What I was saying is that the marketing and usage of these international riders was under utilized. The revenues and attendances show that to be true!!
Also why would you not want to use a meeting with a listed event or with a decent quality of horse flesh to get the public excited about both horse and rider!!
Anyway I'm sure the powers that be learn from each outing as to how they can make days like these more successful in future!!

Buick invited to Sha Tin jockeys' tournament
Hong Kong: William Buick, who is spending his second winter in the UAE as stable jockey to Dhruba Selvaratnam, has been invited to compete in the International Jockeys' Challenge at Sha Tin.
The challenge, recognised as the most prestigious of its kind, is on December 9, four days before the Hong Kong international races and 12 jockeys will compete in three races.
Buick joins an all-star cast including Doug Whtye, whose 'local knowledge' could be a big advantage.
Ryan Moore, Johnny Murtagh, Australia's Hugh Bowman, and Japan Cup winner Christophe Lemaire will also be in action.
At 21, Buick will not be the youngest jockey on duty though, with two 19-year-olds among the 12; last year's champion Hong Kong apprentice Matthew Chadwick and America's Joe Talamo, while Canada will be represented by Chantal Sutherland.
Buick, who recorded his first Group/ Grade 1 win aboard Lahaleeb in the EP Taylor Stakes in October, is looking forward to the challenge - despite it meaning an arduous week of travel.
He said: "I will be in Hong Kong to ride on the Wednesday, back to the UAE for the Jebel Ali meeting on the Friday and then return to Hong Kongto ride Buccellati in the Hong Kong Vase on the Sunday.
"It is a busy few days but a great honour to be asked to take part in the jockeys' challenge. Then I need to be back here [Jebel Ali] for Dhruba, who has been a great help. To ride for him and Sheikh Ahmed, following so many top jockeys like Johnny Murtagh and Pat Smullen, has been a real boost for my career.
"I was delighted to accept the post last year when asked and was really keen to come back. Andrew Balding has been so supportive at home and I have been very lucky to be given the chances."
Regarding Buccellati in the Hong Kong Vase, Buick added: "He is a good horse and deserves his chance in this company on theinternational stage.
"Riding at the Dubai Carnival last year and in these international races is all great experience against the top jockeys and I can only learn from it.
"I was surprised just how competitive the carnival was and am looking forward to the 2010 edition."

Fallon nominates Presvis as best Hong Kong ride
KIEREN FALLON believes Presvis could be his best ride at Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific International race meeting as he looked forward to returning there for the first time in four years next week.
Fallon, who rode Ouija Board to victory in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase on his last visit, will have three rides at Sha Tin on December 13.
He partners Presvis, who tackles the Cup, Youmzain in the Vase and US runner Ferneley for trainer Ben Cecil in the Mile.
"Youmzain and Presvis have serious chances but don't write off Ferneley, who was second and only a length behind Ventura in the Woodbine Mile inSeptember," said Fallon.
"Ventura has since gone on to finish second in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and then won the Grade 1 Matriarch Stakes at Hollywood Park. Ferneley wasn't beaten that far in the Breeders' Cup Mile and will be much better suited to a right-handed track in Hong Kong."
Fallon was frustrated by being beaten into second on Presvis in a warm-up race at Lingfield last month.
"Although it wasn't a disaster for Presvis, I hated being beaten," he said.
"It was a messy race and wasn't run to suit us. I suppose Presvis would be my best chance as he will like the track and the ground.
"He won well at Sha Tin in the Audemars Piguet QEII Cup in April before his unlucky second in Singapore."
After riding Youmzain to finish second to Sea The Stars in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Fallon told the Hong Kong Jockey Club that he felt slightly hard done by because he thought the winner would not get the gap.
"I was following Sea The Stars and couldn't believe Mick [Kinane] would get a run," Fallon explained.
"I would have made my effort earlier hadI known and would have gone much closer," added Fallon whose successful return from an 18-month ban will be the springboard to a bid to reclaim the Flat jockeys' championship in 2010.
"I am really happy now but to go so longwithout the title is something I really want to put right," he said.
"Ryan [Moore] and the rest will have to watch out as I am after them. I hope to return to Hong Kong next year as champion jockey"

If my memory serves me right, LAST YEAR the international jocks rode on Summer cup day ( a combined event ) & they rode some of our TOP HORSES.
This year the events were separated ( so I've been told ) for the simple reason that SUMMER CUP DAY had to be held over " pay day week end " to obviously help with tote turnover figures.
Secondly some of the TOP INTL JOCKS could not ride on the Summer Cup dates cause the JAPAN CUP I think was held the very next day...SUNDAY & no doubt Frankie & some of the top boys, would be riding in the JAPAN CUP.
It will be interesting to see what happens NEXT YEAR...... will the INTL JOCKS be back ? I hope so.
will they try & combine the 2 events again...( I think they should ) .... only time will tell.

Moore joint-top in World Super Jockeys' Series
Japan: Ryan Moore ended Saturday as joint leader in Japan's World Super Jockey Series, an event that brings together 15 outstanding jockeys from Europe, North America, Asia and Japan, at Hanshin racecourse.
The champion jockey, who is tied on 26 points with Japanese rider Norihiro Yokoyama, partnered the locally-trained fourth favourite Charm Nadeshiko to a one-and-a-half length success in the 1m1f Golden Spur Trophy, earning 20 points.
Moore said: "She was a bit keen but I was able to keep her in hand. We didn't have much room in the straight but she was honest and stretched [out] well."
Moore, who is joined by Mick Kinane and French riders Christophe Lemaire and Ioritz Mendizabal, who claimed last year's championship without registering a single win, had earlier picked up six points for a sixth place finish on Admire Darling in the 7f Golden Saddle Trophy.
The competition continues on Sunday with a further two races.
The 26-year-old had ridden in Japan last weekend when he finished fourth aboard the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Conduit in the Japan Cup at Tokyo.
