Still not the best of days, here's hoping?

African jockeys' match postponed until Sunday

South Africa: Turffontein is optimistic that the Johannesburg course will be able to stage the match between the international jockeys' team and the South Africans on Sunday.

Half an inch of rain on Friday night caused the fixture to be switched from Saturday to Sunday.

Patrick Davis, boss of the course's owner Phumelela, said on Saturday evening: "The worst of the weather seems to be over and it's looking promising. Hopefully tomorrow won't be a problem."

The times of the races have been brought forward by almost two hours to allow Frankie Dettori, Mick Kinane, Richard Hughes, Seb Sanders, Jimmy Fortune and Turkish champion Halas Karatas to catch their flights back to Europe.

The four international races are at 11am, 11.35am, 12.45pm and 1.20pm GMT.

>>Durban July winner Big City Life was a late withdrawal from the Green Point Stakes at Kenilworth on Saturday and the Grade 2 race was won by stable companion Fabiani who got up on the line to beat last year's Cape Fillies Guineas winner Sparkling Gem by a head.

Trainer Glen Kotzen said: "Big City Life coughed ten days ago and I put him on antibiotics. We were humming and hahing right until the 11th hour whether to run.

"It was a preventative decision and he will have his prep run for the Queen's Plate in the Pinnacle Stakes here in a fortnight's time."

Cricket fans will be happy, too. Moviegoers like Gregbucks may not care one way or the other. Lol.

I strongly believe we have some of the finest Jocks in the world but to be fair we always have home ground advantage and know the horses form well. Do you think that the organsisers of SA day at Newmarket and this event may be missing an opprtunity to market this as a challenge series. In other words, they should be looking at a home and away leg to the challenge. It levels the playing fields somewhat. The idea sprung to mind whilst reading the Cosgrave comments.

Can you imagine arranging travel packages for travelling fans and the international media hype one could create around the event. Investec is already sponsoring events over there and could get involved in this type of event.

Good point Al, especially as September is a very quiet month in SA racing and the big boys won't have too many pressing commitments locally?

Good one AW - (lol)

Magic - The problem with racing internationally is that the "sport" of racing is not seen as such. Events such as suggested may find groups of supporters getting behind their team and follwoing them around the world in the same way as the Barmy army does. Betting will naturally flow from this.

I would like to see Haley Turner and race fan Barney Curley out here. I am sure that Barney would get on with quite a few forum posters (lol)
