Dave Mollet ! Who does he think he is ?
16 years 1 month ago
I am a punter, and as long as i spend my own money punting i dont think others should speak for me as a ' punter '.
Last week Dave Mollet goes on live TV to the whole country crying about whatever, and also says that bookmakers should not give a stretch.
Why is this guy suggesting such nonsence for us punters ?

Molly is always for the punters, sure he was complaining last week about the deduction rules when an outsider is scratched?
Molly is a punter.

jonk'se I suggest you get your facts straight before critisizing others; Molly had a legitimate point and why you may not appreciate him speaking up for you as an individual, many others admire him for his efforts

Frodo...Firstly i do have my facts straight,im only concerned about the issue of " No stretch "
Secondly why should he speak , as if he is the elected punter representative ?
Frodo...please find me the punters that will agree with him about my issue at hand, that being , that bookmakers should not be giving a stretch .
Please ....

In my 40 years of punting my bookie has always given a stretch, as I find it hard to find winners and they are aware of that!
Not sure on the details, but would be surprised if Molly said that? unless he was asking for the best price up front?
Can't really comment, but nothing wrong with Molly's comments in general, he is always trying to ask for the best deal for the punters, a type of local John McCirrick?

let me try to understand your issue with Molly; you do not have a problem with him taking on the bookies about 'whatever' (and by 'whatever' I assume you are talking about the MAIN issue Molly was trying to raise, which is shortening a horse from 5/10 to 4/10 after the acratching of a 33/1 no-hoper). Correct?
You do seem to have a prblem with the point Molly raised AS A FOLLOW-ON TO THE MAIN ISSUE - that is the 'stretch'; imo you are getting all miffed about a minor point - and imo if the bookies were betting to more reasonable percentages, there would be no need fot the 'stretch' - which is the secondary point I believe Molly was trying to make.

I continue to be amazed at how racing (and often threads) get so emotive that the facts get lost in the drama.
Why start a thread about "whatever".....the very point of Mollie's gripe is that ,on the withdrawal of a no-hoper,prior bets are subject to a deduction and it is hard to argue with him, especially if you are a punter!!!
Moreover,he has a valid ,ongoing gripe with the high overrounds that our bookies bet to.The bookies attempt to justify was to adjust the percentages to what they say is a standard stretch.Mollie is absolutely right when he says that the present "stretch" should therefore become the price, and any "stretch"should be over and above an acceptable overround.
jonk'se,you cannot get your pee in a froth until you understand the full picture!

Mollet is a racing man to the core and he should be supported as we need to look after our punters who add so much to the game

Pirates,a punters assoc.is so needed, but how do you keep it to rational, sensible issues like "why is almost every NHA rule that is in place to protect the punter not properly enforced" with perhaps meetings with the authorities to debate the issues.
How do you handle the inevitable problem of punters who never make a mistake.....every losing bet is somebody elses fault....horse was crook....jock pulled it up etc etc.
Great idea if you can involve the right people!
