Re: 2023 Metropolitan 28th January 2023
2 years 5 months agoI could be wrong of course , but Make it Snappy not for me - and where do you find 14s (8/1 on WSB) - because at that price she could be worth a few bob for places - to say that she ran a faster time than Rascallion is also neither here nor there imo - surely JD and Kommet are 5 lengths superior to Rascallion - but as I say I have been wrong a few times in the past![]()
Make It Snappy is 8/1 currently but 14s was available yesterday.

.......looks like WSB are overly cautious with their AP odds in the middle of the market...I'm sure that once final field and draws etc are known then prices in that market should improve as the better higher rated horses should attract some support.....

@Frodo Times if applied correctly can offer insight to a race and can be comparable if run on the same day and not far apart. We do not have sectional timing. From the person who posted his own sectionals of the race which includes the last 600m of the
Premier Trophy - 36.29
Paddock Stakes - 35.63
The Premier Trophy was a slow pace compared to the Paddock so in essence their last sectionals suppose to be faster as they would have had energy conserved.
Make It Snappy went to the front and set a faster tempo than the Premier Trophy. She still had a quicker last 600m which means she was able to maintain her rhythm throughout the race instead of tiring after fast fractions early on. With a low weight of 51.5kgs getting 8.5kgs from Kommetdieding and Jet Dark and being a front runner she will be able to dictate on her own terms.

Make It Snappy reminds me of the horse that used to run in the Makins yellow and white / blue colours...relentless galloping mare...Jamaica...

To quote Billy Joel .... 'You may be right ....' - race times over ground for me does not swing my selection - too many imponderables (mostly the pace) - fact remains that she will get a lot of weight from the principles, so 14s was good value - see WSB now has her at 7s along with Cousin Casey - of the 2 I do prefer the filly - but a lot to do even at the weights imo to topple the top 2 (is she as good as Charles D ?)
Probably does not mean much at this stage, but I see that the Snaiths have accepted with Nexus and JD (not Warrior, Do It Again, Pomp and Power, Belgarion nor Pacaya) - Nexus has been a revelation lately - should hold Warrior, Rascallion and Universal at the weights, but for me will find it hard to match strides with JD and Kommet - and even Make it Snappy and the Cousin, at the weights

......Glen Kotzen must really rate Cousin Casey over a 2000 trip.....would have thought that he would take this one like his relative Big City Life at a crack at the Cape Derby 4 weeks after the Met....but if not over exerted in the Met maybe still have a crack at the Derby.....

Re: 2023 Metropolitan 28th January 2023
2 years 5 months ago.....the only thing that I see that MiS and Jamaica have in common so far, is that they both won a Paddock stakes......Jamaica was a phenomenon and I have never seen as an impressive filly since.....at 2 going on 3 she stood at 17 hands high and was a very good looking chestnut and although big in size was in the most perfect proportions.... she was gentle yet aloof and seemed to know that she was special..... and that was before she even raced.....Make It Snappy reminds me of the horse that used to run in the Makins yellow and white / blue colours...relentless galloping mare...Jamaica...

No one notice how stinking Sparkling Water was in the betting on Saturday (5/2 OUT TO 16/1) and only beaten a couple of lengths
Sure a big runner in the MET

......Jamaica had one problem in that if she was unchallenged she would begin to loaf ....but if eyeballed would kick on and accelerate....don't recall the exact Cape race where she was beaten by a Joey Ramsden charge ridden by Glen Hatt with an instruction not to run at her until the death.....and she was again beaten.....
it was well known that if you went up to try challenge Jamaica she would kick on....she was beaten in the Cape by Winter Solstice when Glenn Hatt was told to time his run and not try "eyeball" her.....a similar tactic was tried by the same connections later in the Met and not make any pace for Tyson....and another Met winning "miler" named Alistor @50/1 trounced them

......you may be on to something here.....seemed to have been given a softer run and this could indicate a bit of a prep
.....also was making her run middle inside that was not that favorable..... MDK still has a few weeks to wind her up and may be a major contender.....
