3 years 9 months agoI wonder if the stipes will even notice the ride given to Pacaya by van Niekerk.
He would get a decade in Singapore for that. Here it won't get a mention.
He's always good for a brain freeze moment most meetings.
That was definitely no brain freeze, in fact quite the opposite.
Do yourself a favour and go look at the whole race again. Masterful ride

There is so little interest in sa horseracing currently and some of the rides i saw today wont help the cause , sa horseracing needs a miracle

IMO one Crack and he wins, the winner was given a good hard ride to get up and both first timers .........

It's a pity but Anton did everything right IMHO.
The left hand is not being overly used, not sure if the injury was in the left hand.
As for the winner, it was a masterful ride by jockey Louis M. He dropped the horse to the rail after the start and took the shortest way home.
The end result is Anton committed early to the centre of the track and his mount was gasping for the line late.

They seem to have everything covered on the Veldoskoen run, seemingly also lame in the right hind
THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS REPORTED:

b) ARIZONA SKY (M Winnaar) was hanging in in the straight.
c) Jockey C Bantam (MAZARINSGLOBALICON) dropped his crop at the 350m.
d) Between the 250m and the 100m VELDSKOEN (AUS) (A Marcus), which raced green, shifted in away from the crop on two occasions and had to be straightened.
e) HELL OF A DUKE (G van Niekerk) raced green.
f) Jockeys K de Melo, G Cheyne and A Andrews, the riders of BON BOYAGE, DON REPOSADO and TCHAIKOVSKY respectively, reported these colts made a respiratory noise in running. The veterinary surgeon was requested to examine.
g) WINCHESTER MANSION, the winner, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer B Crawford was advised. (CvA)
h) CAPTAIN PERSIA, the third-placed horse, was selected for the taking of specimens for analysis. Trainer GS Kotzen was advised. (SC)
