Turffontein, 02/01

Race (1)
Leading Lad has been consistent and expensive to follow. From a decent draw, expect this one to be involved in the finish.

Race (2)
Namib Desert, should win this with natural improvement from debut run. Expect Smuts to follow him home. Going to anchor Namib Desert in a few multiples.

Race (3)
Say When, if drawn better would be a good thing here. Not that she can’t win this, the draw makes it tricky. She looks to have gate speed, so hoping the in-form apprentice can get her across without too much effort and she may be difficult to peg back. Irish Rain is the danger.

Race (4)
Very open race, the one I liked, August Rain, has not run since January. Push Off looks to have a good chance of winning this, just has to concede weight to most. Namaqualand was good enough to win his maiden in Cape Town back in January, that race has produced many winners, so if not suffering from the second run after a run syndrome, he must be a massive runner here with a pull at the weights and better draw. Money would be a good indicator.

Race (5)
Two horse race, going to side with the unbeaten Anything Goes, but not ruling out the chances of War Of Athena in the exotics.

Race (6)
If we go on ratings, then nos. 1 and 2 should fight this out. Million Dollar question, which is the right one, going to side with Catch Twentytwo.

Race (7)
On ratings, Barahin is the one to beat, but has not run in a long time, should need the run, probably aimed at bigger races. Going to side with Running Brave who ended up being best of the rest and by a comfortable margin in the Summer Cup.

Race (8)
Victor Lazlo could be anything. Keep an eye on Namib Desert running in the 2nd, he finished ahead of Victor Lazlo last time they met, and Victor Lazlo trotted up next time out. The trainer/jockey treble is worth taking.

Race (9)
Lotus keeps finding one to beat her, Maple Sugar looks the obvious improver, had valid excuses last time out from a wide draw, drawn even worse this time around, but must have a shout here.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

In the Tree Troikas, I think the betting is skewed - big value here imo on Gee For Go - should never be 33/1 at these weights; the top 2 although obviously 2 classy fillies, will have their work cut out at these weights imo

The spread of weights in the Tony Ruffel is not that extreme - for me I think the value is Flying Carpet

In the London News, Barahin is the obvious one - if he does need the run, I think Chijmes at 10s look good value

On form, must have a good chance of winning. Was a clear and comfortable second in the Summer Cup. The 3rd (Tree Tumbo) and 4th (Dance Class) placed finishers have subsequently won, so if s/he did win, it wouldn't come as a surprise.

I liked the way CatchTwentyTwo won last time out.
Think he is still improving.

Think the following treble is value at 10-1:
Namib Desert
War Of Athena
CatchTwentyTwo
Richard Fourie is the greatest...

On ratings, it's hard to see MK'S Pride reversing the placings with Catchtwentytwo. To give MK'S Pride a chance of winning, i think Kennedy will try and control the pace of the race, and turn it into a sprint. If this was being run on the inside track, I'd say Kennedy would have had a strong chance of pulling it off with the shorter run-in and his mount looks better suited to the 1400m.

I think the bookies have them priced up correctly, but, please go with your fancy, racing is not an exact science.

Bayern, I can't fault your logic here.......but thinking maybe MK'S PRIDE is better over the 1400 as opposed the 1600.....time will tell I guess :S

I agree with bayern.... Catch 22 a worthy favorite.... MK should be held by Flying Carpet on their last meeting over 1400 and held by Bingwa on their last meeting over 1600 .... at the odds though I still think FC the value over 1400 .... but we all know races are not run on paper

Howzit all…nice racing today

Castle Corner win
Wild Eye each way
Irish rain coming along nicely so win bet…. Dawn of a new Era decent place chance
Starflash been coming down in ratings and in good form…place chance again…running style suggests it might get the 1400 so let’s see
Back a horse till beaten so Anything Goes win
Catch Twenty-two the right one it seems…fancy Bingwa to improve and scare him though and in the same breath Eluid could be something special…not easy
The London News is also not easy to decipher …Running Brave’s run behind the champ might hold the cards…but anything could show up here…Chijmes, Green Haze could offer decent place value…jet start looks bang in form again? Barahin the class…what a mind boggle lol
Pamushana’s Pride each way for me
Bend not break good each way in the last

Enjoy , be safe and please note that the above is just a guide and you must make your own choice B)

Btw Frodo , really appreciate your valuable input and it helps me a lot when I make my final selections in exotics…keep it up buddy!!!
