Caralluma for me, excellent value at 8/1
Nice draw, low weight, jockey in top form

A lot of rain has fallen at Turffontein overnight, so play with caution. Include the Alexander runners in your play.

Race 5 Anything Goes has been very impressive in all 5 wins, but has to give War of Athena a kilo and there should be nothing between them again. Slight preference for Athena as she has had more recent racing. Sentbydestiny wont be far off them at the weights. Caralluma ran a poor race last time but on her earlier form is best weighted. Selection 2/1/5/3
Race 6 Catch Twentytwo very impressive last time and is first choice. MK's Pride on best form and this trip can win. Flying Carpet ran a cracker in the sales race, and can win if repeating that effort now getting 2 kg from the top two. Copper Mountain and Bingwa have consistent form, and can make the frame. Eluid is improving but may prefer further.
selection 1/2/6/5

R1 ) CASTLE CORNER....... i've never backed this fella once yet...... last 6 x runs he has been 5/2 & shorter.....EVERY TIME.... resulting in 5 x seconds, 1 x third..
today 7/2..... a price at last....... will include him in my YANKEE'S today... & he's at a decent price ( he's gotta win sometime - not so ! )
how apt that would be........ WE HAVE A LIQUOR BAN ON RIGHT NOW - & CASTLE CORNER TO SH!!!!!T IN

   IGNORE the above..... rather have a drink to DROWN your sorrors ( finished LAST )

A card on which many will have different views - the going may also have a part to play - I'm paying my money and taking my chances ....
R1: As both Leading Lad and Castle Corner have had a few chances, I'm siding with Ushuais - 2nd start only and stable in form
R2: Namib Desert looks hard to beat - I'm backing it up in a larger BP with the Tarry trained Double Martini, who has pole position and imo likely to improve this trip
R3: Tricky start to the PA; all the ones in the betting must have chances; I'm also including Fists of Fire, who has some fair form including running close to Bingwa and also running in front of winners The Eight Lord, Mars Rover and My Kingdom over 1450 - may prefer the Inside track, but imo not without a chance on that form
R4: Does look a two-horse contest; my preference is for Namaqualand who was entitled to need his last run after almost 11 months off the track and won a strong maiden at Kenilworth over 1600; Push Off the main danger, but may find it hard to give Namaqualand 1.5 kgs and a beating; River Jordan looks 3rd best, while the value might be Dan the Lad - has won twice this track and trip and looks well in here with the 4kg allowance
R5: Well my fancy at the odds Gee for Go has been taken out; I do make this very competitive at the weights - slight preference for Caralluma, but obviously the 2 class class fillies Anything Goes and War of Athena must be included; Sentbydestiny also not to be ignored, but may prefer 1600 and up
R6: Competitive; Catch TwentyTwo worthy favorite imo, but none of the others bar perhaps Bartholdi can be safely ignored; I do think Flying Carpet over this 1400 will be right there - and I see there is market support for Fire and Ice
R7: Barahin at the weights looks to be the right one; has his first run since March though, so not sure how ready he is; Running Brave probably the main danger with Chijmes (who is held by Barahin on their meeting in last year's Charity Mile - ran on a soft track); ExpressfromtheUS has proved me wrong with his last two wins, but still has lot to prove over the extra trip imo; the others are much of a muchness for me
R8: Trappy contest; Victor Lazlo on the up and could be good enough to follow up on his maiden win; Gimmethegoahead also looks capable and has to be considered; Validus another who can't be ignored but may find it hard to give weight away to the other two; for me I think the other 2 recent maiden winners Trooper and Pamushana's Pride have been give too much to do at these weights, but I could be wrong; Liberado likes the soft, and with Kool Baikal could provide the value here
R9: Maple Sugar could round off a red-letter day for the Tarry stable; was strongly fancied last time wen not striding out; main danger is Lotus who is overdue; both of these drawn slightly wide, so it may leave the door open for Perfect Passion who is starting to show and holds a few on her last start; Munabadha fair debut and could improve to feature, while Bend not Break from a good draw has found betting support as well - so it could be more open than first appears.
Enjoy
