Fines and Suspensions

FOUR riders are in hot water with stipendiary stewards and an appeal lodged by S’Manga Khumalo has been dismissed. - Robert Khathi has accepted a one-week suspension from 9 to 15 July for failing to ensure he did not cause interference to Malacca at the 300m mark while riding Russian Alliance in Race 2 at Arlington on 27 June.
- Apprentice Brandon Lerena has accepted a 10-day suspension from 10 to 19 July for failing to ensure he did not cause interference to other runners while riding London Guest in Race 3 at Greyville on 5 July.
- Fanie Chambers has accepted a one-week suspension from 11 to 17 July for failing to ensure he did not cause interference to Elite Force at the 500m mark while riding Gin Sling in Race 6 at Turffontein on 6 July.
- Robbie Hill has been fined R20 000 after pleading guilty to failing to ensure that he rode Mutadarreg out to the finish of Race 8 at Scottsville on 22 June and failed to obtain second place. He may appeal against the penalty imposed.
- S’Manga Khumalo’s appeal against a R20 000 fine, of which R10 000 was wholly suspended for two years providing he is not found guilty of a similar contravention, was dismissed on 2 July.
Khumalo was fined by a National Horseracing Authority inquiry board after being found guilty of riding in an incompetent and unprofessional manner in Race 5 at Flamingo Park on 14 April.
Any idea on exactly how Khumalo rode the horse ?

If the stipes felt that Robbie Hill failed to secure second place and in turn ran unplaced, dont you think that is a case of 'race fixing ' and should carry criminal punsihment.
Any thoughts ???

Geri, confused that race with his July day ride, but standing up before the winning post , if thats the case, in my opinion is race fixing. No mention of interference or ants in his pants.

Sorry I always understood "racefixing" to be stopping a horse from obtaining the best possible position.
Get one thing straight I do not believe many horses are stopped in the RSA.
There are horses given soft rides with the intention of trying to get improvement
for the next race but in most cases the jockey will give that horse a hard ride if it is in at the finish.
Then often horses having their first start are ridden the same way.
Racefixing is a corrupt action for gain.

Had it not been Roy Moodleys horse which won then I am sure an objection would have been upheld on this day. No justice prevailed.....what a joke
