The Sh1t is hitting the fan for all the Jooste boys and over the next few days is only going to
accelerate
Is the export of critical to the normal owner I think not
Only for the BIG guys
Yes our bloodstock would improve if we could shuttle stallions as per Australia
Tonight is the 'Ides of April" sorry March!!
......hope you are right regarding Jooste and his hanger on's....they have really damaged our racing and breeding.....in the same way Jooste was pumping and over inflating the Steinhoff shares ......he and his accomplices were doing the same to average price bloodstock through the CTS they were inflating bid prices by having overseas agents come out and bid without taking any bloodstock out of the country....formed racing partnerships in horses that cost too much and were not ever competitive....he destroyed the smaller owner and breeder in the process...now even more will pack it up because of all the excess horses in the system....too many horses not enough buyers..... :S

As many of these lots may well sell for under R100,000 I see no reason to stump up an additional R 11,500 - R17,000 (excluding VAT) for a lot. That's 34% of outright theft for a R50k lot in session 1.
I'd rather keep my powder dry for the NYS.
Interesting to note that the 'levy' ( read : extortion ) has increased this year whilst the prize money for these 'million dollar' races has not. In actual fact they are worth less in real terms due to the strengthening of the rand against the dollar.
Clearly there must be a lot of bidders spending Other People's Money!

....as for the export of our horses you are only thinking of the top owner with a champion race horse to go on to get stakes in Dubai and HK Singapore.....the export we require is ship loads of 100's of horses to China.....this is not normally the top sales getters from top stallions....in the past Ozzies and Kiwi's exported more of their lessor known stallion progeny to develop racing in in Macau, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong.....Mainland China is a much bigger developing market than these now established racing jurisdictions....and if our export protocol is sorted ....even the smaller breeders can win.....

On my way back to pmb. Some nice horses. Many not so nice. My bidder will remain for the sale on my behalf. We will bid with restraint, to strict limits. Already lots talk of pinhooking and of Breeders who will prep unsolds for R2R.
Hope for their sakes it works out, that there is more money around by then. Lots of KZN boyz down here.
We are looking for Racing stock.
Minimum prices - Session 1 is R50k, Session 2 is R30k, Session 3 is R15k. Remember, only Session 1 and 2 illigible to qualify for R5M races.
Been raining on and off for 5 weeks now, at Ashburton. Lots of missed work and interrupted schedules on wet tracks. Must try get work in tomorrow.....before more rain falls....

.....on the face of it not too tragic....median R105K......however of the 117 lots on the premier day 35 not sold(30%) and not included are the many more buy backs of horses that failed to reach the R100K mark........bargain prices on even top stallions like Captain Al failing to reach his last service fee....

It is difficult to access last nights sale - In my opinion and not insulting anyone , I thought the entire catalogue on Paper is very weak. If last night was the Premier day the Average should have been much higher in order to balance out prices paid today. If we look back on the stats of previous years the average should be around R140k - So they are spot on at the moment , but can not see it staying up there through the day.
Defiantly a buyers market and I feel for the breeders who through Cover charge and looking after, the mare and prodiany are going to battle just to get their investment back.
Lets see how they do today - Aventuur did not have any on sale last night . CTS have presented a sale that you get what you pay for and in between a few bargains. But the average will drop that I am sure of .

I am sure the breeders would have had to confirm long before the Steinhoff fall out so they are now between a rock and hard place. Enjoy the high prices of the January sale albeit questionable with some buyers disappearing and now deal with the fall out at this sale.
If you take into account buy-backs then around 60% of the horses catalogued were sold last night and in a "select" session not to get a single bid at 50k is a true reflection from the market. The auctioneers I felt took much longer than they should have when there was one bid of 50k waiting to get a second bid. If I was the initial bidder I would have left after the first horse I lost by having to wait for a second bid.
Long story short, if the horses are not sold at this sale then the RTR will be oversubscribed or breeders are going to be racing a lot of horses next year. The National sales catalogue looks to be very strong and I am sure many buyers are keeping their gunpowder dry, as Garrick says, for that sale.
It is amazing how many trainers who purchased many of the Klawervlei yearlings previously have been so quiet at this sale. Bargains on offer but unfortunately no medium/smaller owners left in their yards to put the horses together.
