WHAT'S YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF VALUE?
7 years 8 months ago
...... in a race?
So if it's 6/10 and wins or whether it's double digits and gets beaten?
What's your view?

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

I actually hate people talking about value
To win is the only important factor
The only logic in value is if u back a horse at eg 8/1 and you want to win 10 grand
You take 10000/1200
If the horse was 7/1 after u took the 8/1 u would have had 10000/1400
Do u save 200 ????
Good punting

value mostly goes hand in hand with form and at its highest when form is not at the ready

Bayern as far as I'm concerned the price isn't the issue. Value surely means a horse that should be 8-10 but starts 11-10 and wins then that's good value. Same as if it should be 2-10 and you get 5-10 then thats great value should it win. The horse doesn't need to be a long price to represent value it just needs to win at the right price. Just my opinion.

Imo,Dave hit it on the head..... any winning bet is value... what is the difference between backing a 5/10 loser opposed to a 20/1 loser... any winning profitable bet is value..
I would guess that what most people mean when they say the "value bet" for the day is, is when they expected the horse (for example) to be 3/1, but it is actually 5/1, granting them 2/1 greater odds than expected...

Sorry to disagree with you Dave, but 'value' as so distinctly put by MissT is imo very important in any sort of punting.
We probably differ on what 'value' is, but imo 'value' is decided by the individual himself. If you ask someone would they rather back a 5/10 winner or a 50/1 loser, the answer is obvious. However the answer becomes much less clear if the question changes: would you rather back a horse at 5/10 which should be 1/1, or a 50/1 which should be 20/1 ?
To me the challenge is to spot the 10/1 shot that should be (imo) 5/1, or the 1/1 shot that should be (imo) 5/10; that is what makes racing a challenge - and that is what makes bets like the PA, BP, JP and P6 so interesting to me; in most cases, you only need two or more of your 'value' selections to turn up, to make the bets profitable, in addition to be satisfaction of being proved 'right'.
Today is a case in point, I did in fact work out a P6 which would have come to more or less 10k to take, and it returned 500k (and I think if anyone checks my preview, those selections have all been mentioned) just because some horses that had 'value' arrived - those being Tapenzee, The Elmo Effect and Brazuca; on most other days they would have been beaten, but tonight I really wish I had the courage to 'invest' at least a percentage

I agree 100% with Lionel. Also, I will never take under the odds which has cost me winning bets many times over. I can never take 3s if 7/2 is available elsewhere & thats my reason for not betting with the tote.
Fixed odds allow the punter to gauge what is value or not.
In this game, value is most important.

Frodo no problem
Value for me is u coming to the box and telling me what to punt without me buying a race card

Value=the odds offered exceeding the probability of the event occurring.
11-10 a coin flip is value,9-10 is not.
'A winner is a winner no matter the price' is why bookmakers are the ones driving the fancy cars.
