I think Delpech will definitely opt for Al Sahem being an improving 3yr old from a stable that knows how to win the July.

I think Mr Azzie is a little bit between a rock and a hard place - that's if he is keen to run him - his rating currently is high enough to get him in, but currently will have to give his fellow 3 yr olds 3.5 kgs - I suppose he needs to show he gets the trip to get on the log- but the trick could be to do just enough to make it onto the log but still lose a few points

And I agree with Mr H in that this list is top-heavy in favor of the 3yr olds .... anyway I suppose that's the way it is and I suspect that there will be a few disappointed owners of older horses come final acceptance ...
I think it needs to be top heavy with the 3 yr olds simply because some of them will only be coming to hand late in the season while the older horses really will have had a full season or more to prove their worth.
I would love to see a 2200m barrier trial type race for the marginals . No prize money , only open to July entrants , handicapped as if for the July , and the first 2 finishers get in the field with their acceptance fees for free.

Im in the gold circle camp here... i think the log currently is pretty much spot on .
Trying to hide older horses and getting ratings down or just not running them to keep ratings down isnt for me either , and also horses not proven their rating/ability or wellbeing in last 7 months also dont deserve to get in.
This will make sure the ones trying to sneak in wont have it easy , you need to race and stop hiding and bring them out ready because others will get in if you playing games

I personally think that a point system is the way to go - Let GC identify all Graded races over 1600-2400m country-wide in a year and proportion points to the top 4 finishers based on Grade and distance of the races - obviously the closer to 2200m the higher points.... Purely for marketing the July then becomes a year long event and punters(funders of the game) come into April knowing if they should have an ante-post bet as the field will be semi-shaped - I hate hearing people having bets on the July on horses that will not make the final field because the operator uses discretion and eliminates

The Conglomerate is being kept too quiet for my liking, not even in the Betting World 1900?? Im still going to go with him as i have since antepost opened up... Have a few nice ones standing hoping he doesn't get scratched. Would love to see him retain it..any idea what weight he would carry?
