Anyone who's been in racing for any period of time(so that's everyone,as racing clearly has no new punters
),knows that horses are prone to run indifferently at times.
However, seeing as I had absolutely no vested interest in the result of this horses run yesterday,I thought this would be a good time to post.
How oh how can punters continue to have confidence in the form book if this horse could not at the very least be a PA banker yesterday.
Much was written about Champagne Haze's run last time.Horses get beaten, that's just the game, but there have been far too many instances in recent times when GOOD horses have just run miles below their form.
Why?
When horses like these cannot even be considered PA bankers anymore, how can one expect punters to continue to consider form the paramount means of assessing racing. One is constantly having to second guess whether these good horses are actually going to run to their ability, and once punters lose confidence in the form book then there is real trouble on the horizon.
New Predator ran the Guineas winner to a sh,has had a run 3 weeks ago which he won,and now finishes behind Le Clos who is rated 74.
Whilst there would obviously have been beneficiaries of New Predator's poor run yesterday, the vast majority of punters would have been massively disappointed, and I think racing may just find a few more walking out of tote doors never to return.

Form study is not the tool to use to select horses...a dart-board is probably a lot more useful and likely to be more accurate !!

Huchergh - there were valid reasons for New Predator's run.
New Predator in both his starts over 1600 went to the front and dictated the pace. If you watch the Dingaans replay, you can see this horse has such a high cruising speed that he caught Noah flat-footed last time and only because Noah is that good, he caught him.
Now yesterday, he didn't go to the front, the pace was a bit faster(I think, didn't watch it again), combined with the fact that this was 7 furlong plus the tight inside track. Watch New Predator's maiden win plus the Dingaans - the horse needs a galloping and testing track. He got neither yesterday. He finished 3,5 lengths off Suyoof - this isn't a bad run considering the negatives against him. Watch the horse when he gets back to the Standside and over 8 furlong plus.
As for Le Clos - the horse has only had 5 runs. Horses still improve up to maybe 9, 10 runs sometimes. This is why the game is so interesting, sometimes ratings mean nothing. He isn't a bad horse too, worst position he's finished is 5th.

The horse was never worth odds-on. Even the bookies told us that when they opened. We cant complain when we ourselves enforce the enrichment of bookies.

Whichever way you look at it....it was a little disappointing. I bet the stable is a little disappointed too.

Hello Gentleman.
My opinion on the topic , New Predator was couching a bit early last week , I had him on anti biotics but he did how ever miss a few days work .
I am very disappointed that he got beat and if you asked me before the race yesterday , I would have told tou to go stand in the line and collect your money .
He shows incredible work at home and I do think he is a serious racehorse . The race did not work out for us as we jumped a bit lethargic and to chase him to get up there - then ask him to relax in second as he never got to the front , - then ask him to sprint home again of a slow pace .
All of this - him not being a 100% fit and the track and the way the race was run . Was just to much for him . I am not one to shout my mouth off and call horses champions but he is better that run yesterday . Hoping to have him spot on for the Guiness which was always the main prize .

Thanks for the feedback. This at least provides punters with information for future runnings.
Silence just builds resentment and rumour.

100%.....................if the regulators fulfilled their role and asked ,we would get these answers rather than having to rely on stables providing us feedback.............very grateful to the trainer in this instance as most wouldn't bother!

Would horse have continued to shorten had punters, generally, known that horse was on antibiotics and missed a few days work ?? This information would have been of greater value before a race rather than in mitigation after a below par run...on exposed form, horse being a few MR points better than the others, was justifiably short / favourite...
Or was this another run to get the horse spot on for Guineas ??
Always greatly for any feedback received even though information is valuable before an event rather than after...

unfortunately its the same old issue of just how poor the daily press in Gauteng are..did any person from the press try and get hold of a comment from johan prior to the meeting to find out the wellbeing of his 2 runners which just happened to be favourites for both features ..do any of them go out to the training centres and do any of them actually pick up the phone after the meeting to find out about the runners ..we all know the answer is no...THANKS TO JOHAN FOR HIS FEEDBACK
