1st three jocks weigh in process at Turfies???????
9 years 6 months ago
Another query after watching 8 races last night.
Is it not in the interest of racing that the jocks weigh in prior to taking photos, hugs and squeezes etc.
Whats stops manipulation of weigh in process when so many people could interfere prior to the jockeys actually getting weighed in.

As far as I know ,the rule is that nobody may have physical contact with the jockey, or any of his equipment, until he has weighed in..........................obvious to everybody other than the regulators, it would seem!

This rule was very strictly enforced in the early 90's when we had horses but it seems it has gone by the wayside.....I have noticed more and more in recent years.

Like many others Chris .................the first share I had in a horse was under the lap (one of the owners owed me money and paid me with a share of his share-ironically the best horse I ever owned!!!)
When it won ,I was warned not to mouth off that I had a share, as any objection due to "out of order" ownership,by any connections, would lead to our disqualification.
These days we have under the lap ownership mentioned in post race interviews!!!

It really is quite sickening but let's just for one instance consider that perhaps all of these "rule lapses" have not been done due to ineptitude but rather done because of some other reasons?
What could this possibly be? Perhaps the operators are trying to stimulate interest in the sport by making it less "rulesy" (I know there isn't such a word

I don't know, there are just so many rules that have been disregarded that I have to think there must be another reason for this and not just because our racing watchdog is absolutely clueless????

Logical rules that have practical implication on the outcome of a race I support but "old school" rules that are based on social position have no place in a modern world. Tradition adds to the atmosphere I suppose but certain things should have been done away with years ago and have contributed to the view that racing is an elitist "hobby"

Which of the old rules would you like to see abolished Mr H?

I get the impression that there is a lack of understanding of why some of the rules actually exist and why they were introduced!
It is why they change the odd rule ,now and again, instead of a zero based makeover!

A new sensible rule book should be issued that is simplified and easy to understand even to the man on the street and try and include all the various clauses and sub paragraphs in one paragraph , sorry I am rabbiting on lol

Often see grooms/assistants help unsaddle runners and hand jocks dropped equipments..
At the scales you also see a valet ( not sure if he is a valet ) hanging around the equipment etc
