If that is right ,and the customer has the right to "elect" cash out ,then that is not far off my estimate (of 30%margin)
IF CLIENTS HAVE THE OPTION TO ELECT when and what to cash out ,there will be a few worthwhile opportunities .................obviously not as good as exchanges where overounds are minimal , (and trading will be limited to buying shortening prices) but better than nothing!

What did you think?
H, using my example on exchanges means I only know what the yardstick is ......................interested to know the bookies intent or formula)..........as I say if they were operating at about 70% of that it may well attract some trading (and allow bookies to be "taking back" shortening prices at very good odds) :woohoo:
Its their margin on cashout is 32% do a test bet.....
If it was at 70 % who would ever cover their bet ????
people way back then also thought that the inrunning bet was in posible to loss :pinch:
Dellboy, only stupid people ever thought in-running betting was impossible to lose.....and even they never thought it for long!

If a bookie was prepared to settle my example at 68% of the R18000 that is still a reasonable profit to the punter ...................and consider the bookie-he is sitting with a liability of R160,000 on a price now reduced to 5/1 ....................what would he have to outlay ,at 5/1 to limit his liability to R11700 (68% of R18,000).........about R28,400!!!!
So,I estimate that cashing out, at a 32% margin, is a better option!
(hope my arithmetic is correct this late in the day.........

I agree with you... would be nice for someone to answer with facts. Like the long term bets the option is not out yet :silly: surly thats when we are going to to using THAT ?
another thing i guess in their favor is that odds are always going to get smaller closer to the date. dont think if you pick a horse to win the Durban july in June that they are going to " cash out " when the horse shortens

If cash out option at any point in time after bet taken provided return in excess of my targeted profit from my outlay, I would take it rather than leaving the bet to run to completion with possibility of zero return...that's just the accountant in me speaking...like trading the stock market...close trade once pre-determined level attained...
Each to their own...

And can enable one to "stop-loss" oneself out of a bet that goes wrong to minimise loss rather than losing entire outlay...
Only determining factor for me is if at any point cash out option provides profit greater than targeted return...I'll take it...

could be a nice way to get a decent bet on a first timer..take a 4 or 5 fold starting with the first timer and then "Cash Out"
Give everything but up!
