I disagree Bob, I think H is right and there would have to be a formula (even if it is a sliding one).
The question remains what the rules are ,as the main benefit (for me) would be betting on shortening prices.(eg would anybody who backed Legal Eagle at 66/1 have been able to cash out on the Friday when the horse was 7/2?)
It is clear that many do not distinguish between trading and punting .........if you "betting"(trading) that a price will shorten ,cashing out at a predetermined profit is mission accomplished........regardless of the final result of the event!

Nope,R7000 profit.
You've taken 160 000/10 000.
They give you 7000 over and above your 10 000.
You have therefore laid them 160 000/17000,or 9.4/1.
This is when the team is 5-1.
I don't see them being prepared to take much shorter than that price, especially in your scenario which is in the second half of the season when 1 loss could effectively make a team go at least double the price.
17 000 as a total return may even be a generous offer.
I would probably revise that down.
These are bookmakers,not charities.

I suspect you right ,but if its as low as R7000 its theft!!!!!
I use the example as I have that sitting in as an offer (by a trustedfriend....lol) at Betfair
(using simple 20:1 conversion (for example sake) my 500BHP =R10,000 @16/1 =R160,000-@ 5/1 trade out at just over 900 ALL GREEN which is a profit of +- R18,000)
I realise that bookies will not provide that same opportunity but they could make it attractive!

OK,I don't think it will be much use to me as it appears they will offer cash outs on specific bets that suit them rather than do them on request!

H, using my example on exchanges means I only know what the yardstick is ......................interested to know the bookies intent or formula)..........as I say if they were operating at about 70% of that it may well attract some trading (and allow bookies to be "taking back" shortening prices at very good odds) :woohoo:

Its their margin on cashout is 32% do a test bet.....
If it was at 70 % who would ever cover their bet ????
people way back then also thought that the inrunning bet was in posible to loss :pinch:
