I agree that when it comes to accuracy in his call he is quite good. Compared to the others at least he calls the correct result.
But I just feel he over does it sometimes. Comments from yesterday alone include :
"Dark chocolate travels sweetly on the rail"
"Fly at em, with the birds flying away"
" Rocky Stallone, out of his zone"

Then you would be stuffed unless one of you blokes have it in you to call a race. I tell you what. Next time you don't like a commentator hit the mute button, record the race whilst calling it yourself on your I phone or whatever. Then play it back and upload on you tube. After which have the balls to post it on ABC so that we can all hear how good a race caller you are. Deal? Good I look forward to your posting

When we view a race we are only watching the horse that we have backed. These blokes have to watch every horse, I for one can't call a race, maybe a 5 runner, but not much more than that. These callers try, in their own way, to make it more interesting and exciting for the viewer or the guy listening without pictures. Don't knock them if they mess up as they eat, crap and breathe like everybody else. In other words they are human and we are always making mistakes. Well how else would we learn
very well said so in the future before you criticise rugby soccer and cricket coaches and players, jockeys plus politicians and whatever else you have a go at apply the same mindset by putting yourself in their shoes...

Sheldon has big potential but I really think he has to reign in on the gambling side of his calling,,,im not to sure if overseas countrys were looking for someone they would enjoy this side of his calling ..im sure calling has changed as well because in the days before tellytrack the majority of people would rely on the caller painting a picture for us but now the majority can actually watch it live...the question is there aren't to many callers coming through the ranks and many in sa bar Sheldon and Alistair are close to retirement

Me and colours are not mates  That is why I will never criticise any commentator and their calling of a race. Come to think of it that is why I breed or try to breed fast front running horses so no need to see any colours. :P
I enjoy listening to people with a passion for their subject and most of our commentators fit that bill. That bloke in Sweden well fcuk me.........

Sheldon has big potential but I really think he has to reign in on the gambling side of his calling.

Agree with that statement. Sometimes he makes it too obvious.

Sheldon, his dad and Ally are TOP NOTCH. I cannot include Clyde in this group cos he does not commentate any more.

As for Dumpy...he is and will always be the PE legend ( mistakes and all).
PE racing will never be the same if he quits.
That's my take anyway.

I agree with you regarding the extras. The SA callers love saying things like that. Scrapping paint, oh Lord the poor horse must be bleeding from all that or Fire in his eyes. I hope that they don't have to put the horse down after the race. And the horse in cape town that greets the judge. The owner of the horse must be a multi because if I had a horse that could greet the judge he would be doing the rounds on all the major tv stations around the world.

Other than that they do a great job
