I personally like the extra's, for me much better than what often sounds like a eulogy oversees.... At least they make the off-season racing sound interesting.
Would love to hear Smiley calling a race or two again

I agree with C&C
What is wrong with the people on this forum lately/
I wonder how many could call a 6 horse race every 30mins and not make a mistake!

That argument is flawed - I do not PROFESS to be a commentator nor do I PROFESS to be a Jockey/Trainer/Manager. These people are supposed to be PROFESSIONAL. Now they have a certain standard to maintain and as is the nature of Man, that is to judge, I can choose to do just that.
I must however be objective and not allow bias to cloud my judgement. Political Correctness and the biblical phrase" Don't Judge others or you yourself may be judged" are archaic notions that have no place in the real world. We judge our leaders with our votes, products with our cash, our partners with divorce or marriage etc. Our bosses judge us with promotion or demotion and our customers by their custom or lack there of.
If there is one person on this planet that has not judged another or does not have an opinion on another then he is a liar. Racing it seems is very precious unlike other sports where coaches and players are lambasted in the Media every day.
It is your choice to criticize or not - I may not agree with you which I can choose to re-butt or ignore but to deny your right to fair comment is prehistoric.

But I just feel he over does it sometimes. Comments from yesterday alone include :

" Rocky Stallone, out of his zone"
I agree with you regarding the extras. The SA callers love saying things like that. Scrapping paint, oh Lord the poor horse must be bleeding from all that or Fire in his eyes. I hope that they don't have to put the horse down after the race. And the horse in cape town that greets the judge. The owner of the horse must be a multi because if I had a horse that could greet the judge he would be doing the rounds on all the major tv stations around the world.
Other than that they do a great job

I'm sure they are paid to call a race. If it's a job then why make excuses for them? They should call it as they see it, a few extras is okay but no need to be "repetitive" (scraping the rails), "duh"... Sorry but I could not think of a better word, or "exaggerate".
Where horses are, how many lengths off the leader and how the horses are traveling is important to me... Just my opinion

Naaah "scraping the rails" is too pish for me. "Scraping paint" is better

Imagine if all commentators were monotonous angels "he's got a wing on every hoof"

Every horse,in every race, has someones money on it.
It is therefore only fair when race calling, that the commentator should make mention of all the runners during his commentary,so that those listening rather than watching know how the race is unfolding. This is surely the point of having the commentary in the first place.
In Sheldon's case, his commentaries carry far too much personal interest in the race.
