punters don't want to have a bet when they know only a few horses will be trying to win
the rest lenghts behind
they are so far behind that's impossible to catch up
soccer 90mins they enjoy the game
rugby 80mins
Ashes test 5 days
racing they screwed in 30 seconds.... not much fun for punter
jockeys body language says it all..... if the bet is dead very early or not
with sports if the team starts bad punters always got a chance with in play

Rob Faux is spot on. I make it a 76 to which Dan has run. From our side we don't know if he has made the same improvement on Sand as he has on Turf. He remained immature and oblivious to the task at hand for a long time.By his 9th run he was still going to the start like an unraced Juvenile. So, we are not sure if it was immaturity or dislike of the Sand last year when he could only get to the 76 type results. We have looked after this horse with an eye to the Features in Summer. Having said that, he is very well at home.( Dan will be a nice horse to follow in Summer)
Back to the Handicapper. For once I cannot blame him but rather the system. They are not allowed to allocate MR for the sand until he has run in handicaps. This is one of the restrictions which they complain about. Another example is Graduation Day. In both of his last starts they have been capped by the rules. He should be 20 points higher.
So, I agree with you entirely. If Dan runs to a 76 today he has more of a chance of running last than first. We hope for improvement on the sand as we prep him for Summer on Turf.

Standard again. Finding it increasingly difficult to trust all the form, no idea how the track is going to run (I assume heavy again) and no record of the true track conditions in the form cards from previous meetings. Those responsible for the reporting of the track conditions etc really need to find a job they can do competently, though I am struggling to think of such a job without potentially offending anyone. Useless, inconsiderate, thoughtless, shit business brains... and those are the nicer things I have to say about them!
R1 Interesting that the comparatively well related Speedy Gonvarlez is introduced to racing in a WR race on a problematic sand track. Must have a fair chance and could win comfortably but not worth risking imo. Saraaba has had a couple of decent turf runs and though there is little to go on in the breeding, worth noting perhaps that this yard won wish Wisaam on debut back in April, same sire. If those two don't take to the surface then there are quite a few in with claims... Imperial Party has run well at Bingo and is a fair price but no guarantee he will bring that to the Vaal and likely imo that the form won't be strong enough here but worth a rand on the off-chance. Hazelnut and Omorose Angel are not discounted and would be quartet inclusions for me while of others new to the surface, Polar Rebel would be the one I would include but the 1 draw is a concern. Way out there but surely Ndlovu would be on the pick of the Erasmus horses so, at odds of 75s plus, Royal Whistle will get R1 e/w. Saraaba x Hazelnut x Polar Rebel
R2 Probably Precursor but I think there is some value in LG's second string Wishful Heart who only tired in the last 200 lto when drawn widest of 12. Shame for me now only 7 runners but will try a small e/w.
R3 very open imo and plenty collateral (not going thru it all!!) indicates a tight finish possible. Usisi has been in form but not perhaps against the strongest fields and the 1 box is a worry for me. Miss December looks held on her only sand run so will need to prove she is better than that on the surface before I would look at the current odds. 7th Symphony not out of it but again the low draw is a concern. Ballerini worth a couple of rand at the prices and I'll be hoping she fills the trifecta spot behind Wolverina and Seattle Lady who is my e/w shout... Seattle Lady x Wolverina x Ballerini
Enough...
R4 Seven Kings has a bit to find on collateral with a couple of others but given he was coming off a long rest and a big price worth chancing a small e/w in this field. Seven Kings x First Sign x Pera Hur
R5 Rockingandrolling was running on nicely last time, d a bit of a concern but an e/w price... RnR x Julie Doolittle x Stavinsky
R6 Perfect Trip e/w x Tacitus x Limbo
R7 Most of these are badly out of form and any of them returning to anywhere near their best will likely win but Seven Kingdoms absolutely cantered to maiden success lto and given the lack of an obvious candidate could stroll in again. Soukous and Nkomo R1s. Seven Kingdoms x Miss K x Nkomo
R8 The drift a worry but I think Red Savage is very much the one to beat. Paratus R1... Red Savage x Arabian Approval x Battle of Arcole.
Hard to have real confidence, Seven Kingdoms probably the one I like most at the prices.
Be(s)t of luck to all

Re: VAAL SAND RACING - 6th August

I for one will really miss the sand
Thoughts ...........
R1: Money points to the Speedy one - still a few others imo represents real place value, Omorose Angel and Seeking Seattle both very moderate, but probably at best over this trip and drawn favorably? towards the outside - also Imperial Party has some good runs on the 'other' sand track
R2: Other posters have highlighted the inconsistency in Doing it for Dan's rating - so everything points to Precursor - Mootahadee prefers 1200, but should be 2nd best here
R3: Despite being a Conditions Plate, this does not look straight forward, Miss December (like Doing it for Dan in the previous race) has not produced het high turf rating on the sand as yet; same for Seventh Symphony, and the other highly rated runner Flame Cat has not produced anything of note this year (although Striker has won on her before); for me there could be some value with Winter Darling - 3rd run after rest and weighted to give Usisi a real run for her money - another who could produce a huge upset imo is Star Empress on collateral form with Twilight Tiger - and the Wolverina is not that badly in if one trust her rating which is based on Kimberley form
R4: Some very moderate maidens - and any of lightly raced runners could improve to win here - I think the very well bred (but obviously plagued with problems ) Seven Kings, needs inclusion from pole position - again not easy
R5: Toro Rosso probably worth another chance, and even though his last run was disappointing, it was still a fair effort and the tongue tie could prove decisive - should prove hard to beat; danger could be Fire Horse - on his run behind Trip Tease he can't be ignored, with American Tiger probably 3rd best
R6: Competitive - Perfect Trip at 10's my preference
R7: Matsuri I think will win this IF she takes to the sand - Dover Beach 2nd best imo - Seven Kingdoms won a weak maiden and the trip must be q question mark; She's a Looker no places from 6 tries on the sand - and the rest are really struggling of late
R8: San Salvador ran on very well over 1450 last time and is my preference from the consistent but seemingly moderate Red Savage and Battle of Arcole - only other to consider imo is Arabian Bay
Enjoy

Re: VAAL SAND RACING - 6th August

Race 1 - Saraaba might need a bit further but I think this surface will suit.
Race 2 - Precursor looks well in here in 3rd run after a rest over a suitable cd.
Race 3 - Looks open. Flame Cat at best would have a big chance.
Race 4 - Can't find anything.
Race 5 - Toro Rosso did have excuses but price is too short. Maybe Rockingandrolling.
Race 6 - Battle IN Seattle meets a weak field and previous start here was ok.
Race 7 - Miss K getting on a bit but sand rating has dropped and gets old sand pilot back from a 1 draw.
Race 8 - I thought Red Savage looked a good bet but I see a few others are being supported. RS ran well when previously here.

Guys,I was not suggesting that Doing it for Dan can't win .................as Louis points out,the horse has learnt he has more ability since then
...........................just that his "earned" rating is 76.
Would hate to get the abuse if the improvement does convert to sand, as it did with Triptease. :woohoo:

im confused by your comment lg and rf as doing it for dan has had only one run on sand so until he gets 3 on sand will he get an official rating and more importantly this race is a conditions plate so your weight is given to you on amount of wins not your rating

a)According to Computaform ,3 runs ............I only rated the last
b)If discretion had allowed the rating of 76,this would not have been the chosen race, but rather a handicap (I would guess)
c) if indeed it was a 76, it was badly handicapped rather than well handicapped in todays field, altering the forecast
d)we posted before the result was known
