CnC you are being very diplomatic as per usual bud. HM is half a doos cause you can still use a whole doos. Pathetic disgrace, but we saw the writing on the wall 4 years ago when he was appointed.

South African coach Heyneke Meyer apologised to his country for what he said was an "unacceptable" performance by the Springboks as they lost to Japan on Saturday in the biggest upset in Rugby World Cup history.

Speaking to reporters after the Pool B match at Brighton Community Stadium, Meyer said: "I have to apologise to the nation. It was just not good enough. It was unacceptable and I take full responsibility."

Meyer was left to rue his team's ill-discipline in an encounter strewn with penalties.

Shock as Japan stun Springboks with 34-32 victory

"Every time we got playing we scored tries, but our discipline was just not good enough. You can't give away soft penalties. There are no easy games in this competition."

South Africa's Fourie du Preez, who plays his club rugby in Japan, described the result as the low point of his career and said the Springboks had been "outsmarted".

"I've been playing there (Japan) for four years, so I knew what was coming. I tried to let the guys know during the week that they are a proper nation.

"They were probably just better prepared than us, they had a lot of focus areas where they targeted us. They just outsmarted us."

Springbok captain Jean de Villiers told BBC reporters that South Africa could still bounce back.

"There is still a possibility to make it out of the group and we need to win every game we have left, but it is hugely disappointing. The character of this side will be tested. It is not doom and gloom but a massive dent to us."

He can apologise all he likes.. rather take his salary away for the last year then watch him jump on the next flight home and show us what he's truley made of.. The same goes for all the geriatrics in the team

What amazes me most about these posts is no one is blaming the players
HM can train them as much as he want but can he held responsible for poor decisions on the field?
For instance when they tried the silly move at the line out, why not just throw the ball at 3 or 5 and drive over for the try?
A trainer can have a good horse well prepared but if the jockey don't ride according to instructions or rides a poor race making wrong decisions, is the trainer to blame?
I do think HM will have to take responsibility for some wrong decisions but the players are equally to blame because some of the them plays like brain dead idiots
kicking good balls away at crucial stages, poor kicking, etc
One of HM biggest mistakes was to leave Heinrich Brussow home as he now has nobody to grab the balls in the rucks after a tackle hence we lose 3 ruck/ balls s in the first 5 min, when that happened I knew we are in for a ball game
but then again HB was left out because he had to make way for a political correct team, which I think is also a further problem making his life difficult.

Pointless playing that card as most Super 15 teams will beat Japan.

Some good points made imo - but I would suggest that the coach also has a say in on-field decisions - so not sure who made the call on that disastrous line-out.

What would be interesting is the team selected to take on Samoa - do we go for a more attacking option and go with le Roux at full back and Pollard at fly half, or go the more conservative route and keep Kirchner and go with Morne Steyn? I would go the first route, but it would not surprise me should Meyer decide on the 2nd option.

Either way I think du Preez should come in for Pienaar, Duane Vermeulen if fit must surely start, and there should be a change at center - de Allende should play, not sure who his partner should be - we really miss Frans Steyn imo

Please correct me if I am wrong as I didn't watch the game as I was at a wedding, but I did see the follwing-

Kirshner starts at fullback- for almost, if not the past 4 years Willie has started, if not Willie, Lambie has been the. Kirshner has been in the wilderness.....

Du Toit starts at flank- Now we all know he is a colosus of a player, but that's at lock acan cover flank (when in emergency), Siya Kolisi is a out and out flank....

De Villiers and Kriel start as centre pairing- Has that doos not registered De Allende has been probably our best Backline player for some time....

As mentioned I didn't watch the game, so they might of even had stormers, although judging by the score I highly doubt that... I just have no clue what that idiot is doing... I begin to wonder if he passed customs carrying all that shit he must be smoking....

Ruan Pienaar not up to scratch... gets the ball away way too slowly and also telegraphs what he is going to do. Also Juan De Villiers... c'mon man... surely we have youngsters who are hungrier and talented..

James, who do you think selected the squad to go to this World Cup, Meyer or a panel of selectors? Therein lies the answer to your first sentence.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

This is 100% Heneke Mayers fault. I've been saying it for 2 years now, the man needs to grow a pair and kick the fossils in the SA team into retirement. Matfield retired years ago and now he's somehow in the boks team, the whole front row were in their prime in 2006 and just aren't as strong and intimidating as they used to be, de Villiers shouldn't have even got a look in because he hasn't played rugby the whole year and I don't think he made a single pass to kriel the whole game. The same goes for du Toit and only the big man upstairs knows why HM decided to put a lock at flank yesterday. People can say we should blame the players but yesterday the Springboks didn't play badly we were just outclassed plain and simple, the guys put on the field just weren't good enough and that's down to HM.
