I read the weights and the Yorker decision this way.....
Presidents CC -
Yorker 112 to 118. Tellina 110, next run, runs to a 101.....
Pomodoro, 111, next two runs to a 98 and a 100
Wylie Hall not raced since......?!
Knock on Wood not raced since.......?!
Seal 109 runs 3 pounds below his rating over a trip short of his best, next run, over his distance, runs even further below.....?!

Yorker runs to a 112 in Met, over his so called right distance and then confirms that rating when beating an unlucky Cape Town Noir in the Horse Chestnut...... then against what appears to be the sick lame and lazy, they make Yorker a 118....
This year we are seeing the handicappers punish horses nonsensically. There is no doubt that they want to stop horses. This is an obsession with them, it seems.

Variety Club left SA as a 118 after winning 10 group races...... Yorker has not achieved anywhere near Variety Club's level......

Still waiting your reply, Pirates - who are these people with way too much power? Battling to understand how these people and their power effected the Yorker rating/decision.

if the connections of Yorker were unhappy about him getting 6 pounds for winning the 2000m event surely they must have lodged an objection ?does anyone know if they did as that was the time and place to do it not after his run at clairwood over the 1600m

Appreciate the rules but surely common sense and fairness should prevail, which to me means is that if the top weight is scratched then every horse should carry the same weight they would have been allocated on 10 July if Yorker had been scratched prior to the weights publication. As the rules stand it leaves the weights open to manipulation. I'm not saying Yorkers scratching was deliberately done to manipulate the weights but the race is supposed to be run under certain conditions, why should these conditions be changed just because the top rated runner is scratched?

Agree 100% Saksy - the conditions must prevail. And those conditions say that the weights must be raised proportionately, if the top weight is scratched AFTER the weights are published, which they WERE, with Yorker as top weight..... simple. They were published at the due time, on SA Horseracing, which is the official site.

This is the other part of the holistic dimension that I often refer to-(the MR system only works if all horses run all races,on merit!)
The moment these horses ran some 5 lengths below rated a monitoring system should have picked up the situation and ,after analysis, acted accordingly:
Either:a)ratings needed correction .....or
b)action against inconsistent runs
That is how the rules read........act on them!!!!
(the other advantage is, the debate of these horses ratings wouldn't now be speculative)

I may be reading this wrong, but the conditions do not state that the weights must be raised proportionally if the top weight is scratched after the weights were published, it says at the time of final declaration :S

I don't blame anyone for being confused - I am as well - Yorker was scratched BEFORE 'final declaration' - so does this mean that 'they' were within their rights to 're-handicap' - even though 're-handicapping' is not stated as an option anywhere; if Yorker was only scratched on the day of 'final declaration', the conditions state that the weights would have to be re-adjusted - but nothing in the conditions state what should happen to the weights with Y being scratched before 'final declaration' :S:S

For what it's worth,my interpretation is, that if the rules apply "at the time of final declaration" then those rules do not apply PRIOR to final declaration.

Sorry to be so confused by the facts boys.....
1)Once weights are out, they are out.
2)Acceptances are AFTER publication of weights., so I don't know why you are battling to grasp the point. There is NO PROVISION for the handicapper to redo the weights after they have been published. So, at acceptances they must be raised proportionately. ONLY at acceptances. They don't readjust the weights every time there is a scratching. Most people would understand the simplicity of the principle.
