So you'd ideally want to have a 'Guineas' (1600) a 'Classic' (1800-2000) and a 'Derby' (2400) - so in SA maybe you'd run one in Gauteng, one in the Cape and one in KZN - maybe alternating the races between the venues each year - problem is going to be scheduling, as you'd probably want these races to be spread over no more that 3 months :S

Exactly why Cape Guineas 1600m Gauteng Classic 1800m and Daily News 2000m all Gr1 races is the fairest and most perfect Triple Crown for all South African horses over a period of 6 months.

Interesting to note that according to the IFHA top 50 grade1 races in the world, the top rated 3yo grade1 race is the St James's Palace (27th) followed by Kentucky Derby (35th) , Epsom Derby (41st), Preakness (47th) and then St Leger (48th).
So both the UK & US TC have two races in the top 50.
Not a single SA race in the top 50.

Some very good points have been made here and you know how I feel about the "triple what ever's". However racing needs horses the public can ID with and any hype about any horse is great for racing. I truely hope LTK wins.
